U can only stand 7 normal qts, half gallons are wider and taller. I can't remember if it was four or 5. Also a 3/4 full at jar is 1 cup of air space, a half gallon is 2 cups of air space. Just things to consider but there are pp5 containers I've found that are nice and also sq.

I have seen some pp5 quart bottles with affixed filter lids but they’re stupid expensive and they’re qts. Also I would most likely fill the half gallon jars to the shoulder, I rarely make “myco-qts” unless i need to get a lot of spawn ready quickly, and then I’ll just do half a qt and g2g it to ten using less than I normally would. Point being, I’d probably use most of the air space your allowing for.
I think what I’ll do is try 2 half gallons. I do 4qt tubs so 2 half gallons will be enough spawn and if it works out without any problems I’ll do a larger scale test. Just tryna cut down to jar cost+glass usage.

Those are different kinds of bags. He's talking about spawn. jb, check RR's video for sawdust bags. It shows you how to fold them, use a Tyvek sleeve, and place them in a PC. Do you have a FH?

That's a post about loading up grain and sub into bags and fruiting out the bag though. I don't think that's what he's looking for. I feel like there is a good right up on making bags but i can't for the life of me remember who done it. Maybe there isn't one. I certainly remember getting into bags and feeling like i couldn't figure a bunch of shit out and wished there was a better write up on spawn bags.
I'll do a bit a searching when i get a chance and if there isn't a good one, i'll make a good one.

That's what I was going to link. It's the best I've seen, but it always bothered me that basically all of it can be figured out with common sense and intuition, but he glosses over the most difficult part of inoculation. It's like, "Now this is the tough part and this is hard to explain, but" lol I always wished he'd update with a quick gif or something. It's the part I struggle with most. I was going to ask you to send me a quick clip, verum.

What ratio do you think wet weight to cracker dry weight usually is? And how much are you getting out of monos and dubs? How many flushes?

Yall realize you don’t have to use tyvek sleeves for bags though right?
Gourmet growers figured that out a couple years ago. Makes no noticeable difference IME. I believed the hype about filtering incoming air but in reality the bag forms a vacuum before the pressure drops enough for air from outside the PC to come in. I’ve left PC’d grain bags on the shelf with no tyvek for a week and then inoculated in with no problems. For a while I thought it would cut down on burst spawn bags too but after some experimentation I figured out it doesn’t make enough of a difference to justify the time spent doing it. I managed to make bags quit bursting by using a pillowcase liner for the PC and doing a 30 min cool down cycle at low heat.
They definitely seal better than unmodded lids, because every once in a while even my SFD modded pp5’s fuck me, I’ve started wrapping them like verum.
Also been thinking about writing a grain bag tek because I hd the same experience, couldnt finda good one and faked it for a while with a lot of burst bags until I finally nailed it down and now its only 1/24 or less that fail during PC. And I chalk that up to the fact that I use the “2nds” bags from unicorn and some are inconsistent thickness.

I tried without sleeves and bags burst. My sleeves are already creased and can be inserted quickly. It's not a huge hassle. I was going to mention the sleeves aren't 100% necessary, but I still believe they make it easier overall so I decided not to.

i used to use sleeves but now think they don't help anything in any way. I have a huge bag of sleeves that i never use for anything
