Far far far far far less of a crapshoot than with MS grows. The clone will preform wonderfully until it won't. Then, even though you've become quite good at growing and super certain of yourself, it'll perform like shit and you'll wonder if going back to the slant will save you. Hopefully, you'll find you're slant in good health and all will be as it was.

a friend of mine was over with her dog the other day and thought the dog was acting strange. She turned to me and said, "there aren't any random mushrooms lying around are there? My dog loves them and will eat them all".
i said, "good luck then cause they are fucking everywhere"
Her dog was acting a little strange a couple hours later

Ok, follow up question. If it is sectoring where would you take the transfer from? Leading edge of one of the sectors or closer to the center, to possibly corral more genetics? Ideally I know you would take transfers from all the sectors then test those but...

In the event that I find myself with a sectoring clone that i want to slant, I choose pieces from the leading edges of all the most prominent sectors and put them all in together. I DO NOT know if it helps but i do it anyway. No harm no foul if you did it right and you're sure to save all the genetics that you enjoy.

It's my first grow and getting my first sign of pins! Is there anything different in terms of surface conditions I should be doing at this point? I flipped my shoebox lid to give it more FAE so some of that water would evaporate. Not sure if my surface has too much beaded up water

It's fine dont flip your shoebox lid. if this is your first grow just snap the lid back on and let it do its thing, the mushrooms will use up those droplets

Can you put sections of fruit on a slant or does it need to be from agar?

you could but it'd be a risky move at best and dumb in my opinion. go to an agar plate and don't go to a slant until you know it's clean.

Its best to transfer to a dish first so you can visually screen for contams before storing long term

So... I found a very old bag of very bacterial colonized grain... the bag colonized pretty well for the most part though Theres a few blotches of bacterial grain on the bottom. The bag has been sitting colonizing for like 3-4 months.
Is it worth opening the bag and dumping some coir on top and seeing if anything will grow, or is it just too old? I've never found something this old
