The first run of millet that i did. About six 1qt jars left. I dnt really knw for sure cuz i have no experience with it but i figure it's a too dry. Myc seems to be having an unreasonably difficult time colonizing it. Has the appearance of misted, dry millet.
About to take PC off heat and let her cool. See how this batch looks. I'll learn eventually. Got yalls help for which i am indeed greatful.

Millet I would reccomend prepless. Caps tek is pretty on point. I tried boiling and hot water dump too, but neither were ideal. Load the jars and PC, so easy, so quick.

sterile should be on top.
Then non sterile items, in a plastic bid with lid on, below the sterile items. (Farther away the better)

Agar is cooling...bout to start up the flowhood for the first time in like, 4-5 months
I have some blanks (MEA) I forgot about but I didn't date them. They were probably made in May.
I wonder if they would have lost a lot of water? They are parafilmed and in a tupper container but not refrigerated. But with nothing growing on there I really can't imagine they lost much. Never used blanks that are months old but figure I will try em out while I wait for the agar to cool...going to be a late night.

Gyps, heres what i do for some pretty good millet, my cultures love it at least: 8 pounds (measured with one of those feed cups so maybe more) of millet Spray with the sink sprayer and swoosh. Dump half out and do it again. PUt it all back in the pot, fill it up, add just a bit of gypsum (millet doesnt need very much as long as you dont burst a ton of grain) put on medium-7 with lid on for 25 minutes, and BITE CHECK YOUR MILLET
i know i could have just said that from the start but forreal i dont understand why more people wont just open a piece up and check the middle. Do it for 10-15 over the course of the boil (at medium-7) and you can be reasonably sure the rest of the pot is hydrated similarly. After youre sure the inside is completely hydrated, by visually checking, you could leave it out to dry for days (would NOT reccomend) with it losing water.
Also no i dont think so.

Who here uses gypsum still? For grains? Subs? Both?
I bought some one time but it was amazon and expensive as fuck so I stopped using it. Don't think it made much difference, does it noticeably help for anything other than grains sticking together?

Its cheap as fuck in the pelletized form at home depot. It however is not neccessary. just dont burst a ton of grain and you dont even really need it. I have heard that it helps the Ph? i aint no scientist dont know nun bout dat

I still use it but i dont know if i notice a difference. I know that they dry better with gypsum, but i always try to dry for 12 hours just to keep it consistently dry. Aside: i think this may be a big factor in lowering my contam rate, i digress. Sometimes if i use too much gypsum they get sandy but i rarely measure and go very light so it hasnt happened in a while, ive run 10 cases in the past 2 weeks

That's all I've been using, I ditched verm too...expensive and messier than coir, sticks to damn everything the little thin flakes.
I actually don't think I noticed any difference either when switching.
Used the 1L media bottle, it's surprisingly not too bad to pour from directly, though maybe a bit heavy if it was full but, it's not bad.

I was stoned and didn't hear my timer go off, little bit of sediment and chunks from caramelized sugars (I assume?). Broth is a bit darker than normal but meh, should be fine
I need to get a nice piece of plywood for the working bench top, I hate the cracks between my boards

No one uses Verm to get field capacity right when bucket teking? I use it to dry up the sub some if I get a little too wet. Easier than squeezing it all out. I also like to use gypsum in my grains already have it on hand for garden use.
