Millet can be soaked 24 hours without causing grain gremlins. I start the soak with hot water and let it soak over night and then give it a very minimal drain.
Or, if I'm in a hurry, I fill the bucket of millet with hot water (hot as the tap will get), put a lid on it and start boiling water in another pot. Once boiling is achieved i turn off the stove, dump the hot water that's currently kicking it in the grain and then dump the roughly 200 degree water onto the grain. Then i'll let it soak about an hour and give it a medium strain. I've found that getting the millet warmed up before the super hot water hits it really cuts down on burst millet.

That's the main reason for soaks. People used to add water to the grain jars and PC like that, but tons of kernels would burst.

It doesnt matter if the grains are burst, just makes it hard to shake. Im sure most people have seen it but caps "teks" are just adaptations of other teks, and the PPMs are an adaptation of This methodology, which i use constantly when i dont have much time. You didnt waste anything, itll probably do just fine as long as you didnt add too much water and PCd for long enough. If you use gypsum then burst grains are a non-issue. Just not as clean looking

I'm aware. I should've been more clear. I'm talking about foo mans wbs tek. I found that dumping 200 degree water on room temp millet resulted in a shitload of burst millet. So i started pre warming the grain and it solved that to a great degree

Ok cool. Yeah, I saw that other tek that includes the gypsum after I made these. Millet was clumpy, so definitely getting gypsum for next round.

Id reccomend menards or home depot, dont buy that expensive ass shit off amazon... just get pelletized gypsum, my bag was like damn near 100# for 6 bucks. Shit will last me literally forever as i only use a 1/4 pint per case of jars and 1 pint for 2brick CVG

I thought about that pellet stuff. Do you have to grind it up? Or does it almost dissolve or break up easy? Thx

Got a batch of millet in the PC now. I warmed it with hot tap water outta the tap, boiled more water, drained the old warm out, poured boiling in, waited an hour, loaded, etc. Also got a batch on a 24hr soak in a bucket. She'll be ready 2mrrw at 3:30pm. We'll see wats good.
Found trich in another of them "dry grain" jars. Incredible. Jst fucking incredible. Was ultra careful with them a2g's too. Still dnt have enough for a flowhood god damnit. Jst strait vexation from hell.
I am having much better success with plates though, so i must be on the right track.

Agreed I'm usually finding full grown miatake by now but they just started popping up here in old smellinois. Chanterelle were late around here to.
