The first dehydrator you buy is a game changer, like your first presto 23l, or your first agar success, first bulk grow success, first SAB, first Flow hood.  Its a top level cultivation tool.

I remember when I didn't used to use a SAB had a tiny clean room in a old ass trailer open aired everything once I got it down hardly never had contams. Boy that was years ago. Now I dont know how I got away with shit. Never used agar. I was a full blown noob at one time.:smirk:

I might just use this and see what happens.  I had another plate that looked the same which ive expanded to 2 new'ns.  Other species and varieties have been ok on 2%.

Since the flow hood build I now have so few failures im looking at testing 8 cultures next week........

Has anyone tried any type of surface sterilization of seeds? How did it work out?

Just wanted people to know a well known grow kit supplier is selling laminar flow hoods now they're $399 and they are just big enough to not do a damn thing comfortably, 12x12, no I didn't buy one. Just had to share with the community.

The attachment is difficult for me to read, but I think it describes surface sterilization of seeds with hydrogen peroxide and ethanol. I worked in tissue culture labs for many years and would often use bleach to surface sterilize seeds and plant parts (flower buds, leaves, and petioles). The protocols varied, but it would often be 20-30% for 4-8 minutes, with a surfactant and under agitation to get complete contact with all surfaces, since plant parts can be hairy and foster air bubbles .

Can i link that thing here?

Thats almost a scam you could build one double that size, and probably 200% more effective, for less than that

Im looking into making a dehydrator myself, and cant decide which matterials to use.
Was thinking of using an electric heat fan components to fit them in a wooden or plastic box. It would have enough power to dehydrate more than 9 trays. Still trying to figure out the design tho.

Hot air rises quite a bit, so no fan needed, IMO. although many people use a fan in their design. I dislike the constant drone.... Its not rocket science.

Anybody think of those modular square cabinets from ikea? I think they make pp5 ones, and i know midwest growkits makes some sort of hardware for plugging in that exact type of element mentioned above^. You could modify it to hold wire baking racks and clip a desk fan down in the bottom corner. Maybe drill 4 1/4" holes to allow the hot air+moisture to escape, sounds like a cheap bulk dehydrator? may have to get on it, the dehydro isnt big enough and i cant abide leaving it on for longer than 72 hrs.

Alot of people make solar dehydrators that use heated air rising up from the bottom and vented through the top its commonly used design by homesteaders.
I think I'm going to build a solar dehydrator but one that uses a fan and heating element then is powered by a small solar panel. Maybe paint the body of it black for a little extra heat absorption.

I just setup alerts on CL and OfferUp until I found a good deal on the big Cabelas I've always wanted. 7 years old at time of purchase, used literally once, only $200:
