Also i dont think so, in professional application they are installed in the ceiling, most hoods (chemical and smoke) are standalone, as are flow hoods.
Im not talking about professional application. Im talking about all these hobbiests who build their own hood with a fan, box and filter.
What we call flow hoods would be more accurately described as flow cabinets, all the professional quality ones ahve and enclosure built around them. And often those same FFU’s are sold with an enclosure as laminar flow hoods. The cheap used ones are mostly out of hospital clean rooms and pharmecutical production where they’re used more to scub the intake air and keep contaminants moving downward as opposed to making a sterile work area.

I love pouring plates. Its definitely less stressfull with a hood but I poured in my SAB plenty before I built my hood.
I actually built my first two hoods out of the fans from old FFU’s ñI got for free because they arrived with ripped filers and cracked housings.

Grow in bags? You can get biodegradable ones now, think I might move that way myself. Either fruiting in vitro or do like boog does and cram the bags into a mono. That way you only hve to wash them if you get a sporulating contam.
I dont enjoy washing tubs very much either, but as long and I stay on it and have grain waiting for them I can motivate to do it most of the time.

ah, i don't think I'll ever do bags... i don't really like to buy extra stuff that can't be reused
and bags just don't really fit into my method

They get composted with the spent sub and only cost about 40 cents a piece, less if you buy bulk. Thats basically like paying 1.60 to not have to wash a tub, not that bad of a trade off. Biggest downside is you need shelving if you arent fruiting in monotubs. But shelving is more reusable than tubs with holes in them if you dont already have a bunch of mono’s. I go back and forth on it myself, it all depends on your scale and how much of your time you are willing to dedicate, washing a few tubs and a couple extra pc runs of jars aint that bad but being able to do over 2x as much grain in almost the same amout of time is pretty damn convenient.
I even considered not cooking in bags but instead using the large bags with the 5micron filter patch as a fruiting chamber only. With a big enough operation the labor it would cut down on washing tubs is totally worth the extra cost, and if you factored in the initial investment in totes and time spent modifying them it’d probably be a while before you were technically spending money on em. The ability to isolate contamination and just slap a piece of tape over the patch is appealing to me too.

Yea that's not too bad, cost wise
I hadn't thought about the amount of grain you can PC using a bag vs filling jars
natedawg reused these bags for fruiting bacterial spawn (Dawgy Bag): https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23981421/

I started growing again last year (after a long hiatus) and now I have PE, APE, and some other basic cubes around (PF classic, treasure coast)
I need to trip. I've just been doing acid every 6 months or so, quit drinking. I think it's time to take a trip down psilocybin lane
Ok this is a repeat tip but seriously shoeboxers...do it
Dishwashers are awesome for shoeboxes. I'm considering using shoeboxes for all of my grow cause I'm lazy and hate cleaning large tubs. Has anyone here moved from monotubs to shoeboxes exclusively? They fit on shelves great too...
Canadians - dollar tree has perfect shoeboxes for $1 each they're only like 5 litres but they are the best you can get in canada for $1 seriously buy some.

I began using a lot of shoeboxes last year, they're great. So far right now, I'm using some large ziploc boxes that are like shoeboxes but slightly smaller. Experimenting with 1 pint of spawn in those. Partly because some of the spawn is questionable and I didn't want to mix it all up.
Just did some more transfers and using stare's tip to cut down into the new agar seems to have solved all my issues, now that I'm pouring the agar thicker into the dishes. The wedge comes right off as long as I can sink the blade in deep enough
