Like I said. I noticed any issues myself but I can grab pretty hot stuff.  Flimsy scalpel?  Is it not stainless steel?

I prefer using a small inoculation Loop in place of a scalpel or xacto. You don't need something sharp to cut right through agar. And once you get used to it, you get nice with it and you could do soon slick moves....anywhos....

I bend a 90 degree about 2-3 mm from the tip. I can just skim under the mycellium and it's great for picking up and placing the transfer in the new plate

Huh thats clever.
We shud make a scalpel handle with a section on glass in the handle so that way heat doesnt travel up it.

But yeah exactos are shit for this cuz the little screw dealy that holds the blade in comes loose with the expanding and contracting of hot/cold. Prolly raining all kinda half burnt death over my shit.

No. If theyre over hydrated it means you burst too many kernals overcooking them and they will likely clump once sterilized.

Not sure about your oats but aside from the drying part mine literally have bods oat tek written on the side as cooking instructions with alittle diagram too

Oh, ok. I don't know why, but I seem to be having better luck with Eat's tek.  But I'm giving up on oats, anyway. I'm gonna burn through my current stock, then I'm switching to millet.

I know shaper's switch means alot to you, but oats are still a really good spawn. A mix is apparently good for the mycelium, such as millet masters then oat receivers, or complete millet expansion and then oat as final spawn... Idk i love oats, and will always keep em in rotation.

I understand moving away if youre having a problem though.

Same. Theyre .ainly what I use. They prep the easiest to prep and are a little more forgiving than others if over or undercooked.  Barly is nice too.  my store sells out of one grain or another all the time tho so Im constantly switching. Only time i had a problem with oats it wasnt the oats but all the grains from a certain brand were inherently "dirty".  Bought new oats from a different brand and the problem went away.  No one type of grain is anymore suseptable to contams if your sterilization is on point unless theyre just really dirty but thats not due to the type of grain but storage conditions and such.  Millet sucks tho cause it clumps more than any other IME

Its not "good for the mycelium" it's about more inoculation points than anything else

Also, some grain companies use baccillus as a fungicide for their product

Yes that is why I dont use organic. Its usually organic companies that do that but it wasnt the case with those.  Yeah, im not using different grains for my myc but mainly prices of different grains change seasonally and they run out of what I want. Then if I have a bunch of odds n ends Ill make a salad batch.

Fuck thermophilic bacteria!

From now on im using whatever doesnt require a friggin drying table, i hate that thing.
I hate having to prop up a fan and work through berries with my hands while they dry. Im not the grain berry baby sitter.

Soo... been doing this yr round with no fuss.  Just get a 12x12 or 20x20' or whatever size canvas drop cloth for painting and an easy up if its raining.  Yeah, thats right... my house is soo small I gotta do it all in my big ass yard.  I use a homebrew kettle with bazooka tube for straining.  Just drain an dump that sheeit. Then rake it around with a garden rake until dry. Depending on weather this can take 30 min - a couple hours but rake frequently to reduce your time.  Got the Idea from watching a video of a german malt kiln.  The rake that is.  They put 1,00]s of lbs of grain on a heated concrete slab an just rake em til theyre ready to kiln

So after a conversation that went like this with the wife.......
"Your mushroom shit is taking over the house sort it out'

Me

"princess wants, princess gets'

I have this question

So light is beneficial to all stages of growth but has anyone actually done a back to back light verses dark colonising experiment.  I mean for agar, jars ect.....

Im thinking of building a colonising cupboard and it might have to be in the dark.  If being in the dark makes it colonise slower thats ok but if it cause more problem a light in the chamber/cupboard might have to be introduced.

Help me stay married please!!!!

As far as I know light is beneficial, to what extent and how much exactly, I donโ€™t.

You can get cheap ass LED strips online tho that just stick to anything. Just make sure you get the right white colour temperature (degrees Kelvin) I cant remember off the top of my head what that is tho.

Any idea on why are they coming so small?
Also, do you think that cap will ever drop spores?

Thanks!

Genetics, sub too wet, several can contribute to that. I don't see why that call wouldn't drop spores, if your wanting a print it's not gonna be very long possibly.

Thanks mate! Yeah... subs probably too wet  kind of like over field capacity and also heavely misted the casing the first few days... :jonespalm:

Have two more questions! Should i harvest one by one when they are looking about ready or is it better to wait for most of them to fully mature?

Also, when would be the right time to clone? Before they start dropping spores, right?
