Hi to all of you!. I have been having this question and havent found any good answer on the forum.
Do you guys close the lids tight before PC? And why? It seems that by letting steam get into the jars more easily the sterilizarion process would be much more easy and efficient. All of this due to the fact that with the vapor inside the jars it would not matter the volume of the jar because with the steam inside the slightly untightened jars the only volume that would matter would be the size of the grain.
I would like to know your experienced opinions.
Also. I have a galindoi shoebox showing lots of condesation on the sides, still no pooling of water, think my coir was very slightly over field capacity. What should i do?
Thank you!

Loosen lids before putting in the pc.
For your shoebox... Leave the lid off till it dries up some.

The reason we put lids on slightly loose in the pc, is so they are easier to unscrew when you use them. Also plastic lids tightened all the way down can warp.
You do not want steam from the pc getting in the jar, that would throw off the moisture level of your grain.

Whoa now. Don't put me in a box. I don't get side pins. Tamp the sides down hard. Like level the tub, then go around the edges and tamp them down another inch. Then go back over with more sub and re-level the thing. If you do that, you don't make it too wet initially, and you keep surface conditions correct. I promise you will not see side pins or major shrinkage first flush.

an inch? damn. I've never gone that drastic on the edges. Promise is a big werd. I'll try it and get back to you. Ain't nobody got time to do that on every tub though. Unless it can happen way quicker than I'm imagining.
Has anyone else had trouble allowing certain members into a private journal since the hack? I can't seem to pull it off. I went into the thread, clicked "access", entered their usernames and hit update. But they still can't get in. What gives?

I use a clean jar bottom to push the substrate down and its really level. When growing with shoe boxes I always loosely fill it to the top, then mix that and the spawn in a mixing bowl and flatten that back into the shoebox, same everytime, full and flat

Proper hydration initially, LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE... no circle, no owl... Just set and forget y'all
I level, tamp the edges, then relevel from the top of the center mass before adding 1/4" top layer... then I look at it in day 5-8, again in 10-14:usually ready for harvest

Use a modified tub and follow Frank's dial in a monotub tek, keep practicing proper field capacity. That helps me avoid sidepins

How come? I've only used pasty plates and wanna go for Petri just for the size. Thinking about buying some tonight. Just wondering what makes them worth it.

Those are the plates i get and think they are worth it too. They are just packaged well and built like a tank. Easy to work with too. I hate cheap flimsy dishes.... they work fine but I splurge on the cell treat dishes. It's the best balance I've found between price and quality.
