Has anyone heard of, or better yet used, the grain Triticale? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triticale
Apparently it is a lab bred hybrid of rye and wheat. I just found out about it from a local listing of whole triticale grain for only .15/lb. Seems like it could be worth pursuing but I was hoping someone may have some experience with it as spawn for bulk. The search engine did not prove fruitful, I could only find a post that RR said he had never heard of the grain but should work.

Yeah I found another listing for organic triticale too for .25 a lb, and with rye being $1.50/lb locally or little less than $1/lb if I order it; so this would be much more affordable. More so than WBS even I believe.. Just didn't want to jump the gun if its not a worthy grain haha.

Again..... Why does no one else use milo??? Am I missing out here? To everyone's thoughts on the lid, I most likely will not use the lid after testing my range of motion within the box. It will most likely sit directly on the table. Thanks for the input you guys are awesome, I wish I could have some cocktails and burn some red meat with many of you. Dick

Milo is simply not as easily found in my area. So I use other grains.

Milo is too expensive where I live + it is a mess to work with milo. I tried WBS one time and my kitchen looked like a mess. My colander is not suitable for WBS/milo. I had problems to get the right water content.
Summary: - too expensive compared to rye/wheat - makes a mess - not easy to get the right water content (IME)

Interesting how the prices differ from country to country. Wheat is cheaper here. If you buy 1kg units rye costs about 1.30 EUR wheat about 1.20 EUR.

You mean you like wheat more than rye in general? Or that this particular wheat you just bought is better than the rye you were using?

Which type of wheat out of curiosity? I used winter wheat a while back and I liked that a lot.
Where I am now soft wheat is the easiest grain to find so I've been using that. So far so good, oats should be fun though.

I just found organic rye berries locally for $0.66 a pound. I've wanted to try rye fir a long time but haven't been able to find them until just now.

I'll have to decide very soon which grain I'm going to be using, but I'm at a loss. I'd like to give oats a go but wheat and rye are good options as well. Then there's the endospore levels in grains, and I don't know if some grains are more prone to have dangerous endospore levels than others, would really love to know.
Is there a post I missed that explains the pros and cons of commonly used grains? That'd be cool.

It was definitely a soft wheat and was yellow like corn, however I threw the bag away and can't remember what its called.
My go-to grain is definitely rye though
