tryptkaloids said: 'Bad conditions' is vague and includes minor contam/poor spawn in my opinion. It all Depends on the coir. Quality control is very inconsistent. Heated coir is best for sure because it aids digestion
agreed on the conditions , and this can clear things up a bit more on contamination origin
example : IF you hydrate coco with unboiled water put it in a tub with no fae for two weeks ( bad conditions ) but not spawning it , just the coco , and it doesn't contam , this tells us that when contams apear in our tubs , our grains are to blame , what else? , amaright?
clean spawn is the game , that is what it's all about imo , nothing goes on with out it
coco varies a lot in everything , weight texture and overall quality , but it should be cooked with boiling water and does not requiere proper pasteurization , and i boil the shit out of the water i use to hydrate cause you know tap water is full of nasties
No where in America is tap water full of nasties besides maybe flint Michigan. Some of the worst water reports that some sites use as justification that tap water is bad cite these records saying look there's rocket fuel. At parts per billion levels lol.
so , not to get semantical , i do live in america the continent , not in the united states the country ; no country called america , i know you know.
i have well water , you should see how green the well is ;
and just to confirm , boiling water to bucket with brick and whatever you add , is the way to go right ?

I almost wrote a little comment about well water, but felt too pedantic. Sometimes well water is fine, sometimes(like mine) too heavy in certain things and was better off with drinking water.
Yea that simple. boil water, add to coir in a bucket.

"The way to go" is different for everyone. I don't like using straight coir because i feel like it has better texture mixed with poo and i can get shit for free. But for straight coir boiling is what I'd recommend unless you are struggling

i concur ; the way to go with coco
it's been a while since i used poo , i used it at the beginning and proper pasteurized it ; i'm sure adding hpoo to coco mixes adds a lot of nutes and benefits and whatnot to the mushies , i think the question would be , is it worth it to invest the time and effort in proper pasteurization? All this talk made me wanna make some hpoo coco mix and pasteurize it ; i get the shit for for free too ( :

I think so, but its not one size fits all. Im in this hobby because I enjoy it so doing the work isn't an issue for me.
Like the bhagavad gita says: "you have the rights to action, not the fruits of action"
I bet once you get a coir/verm/poo mix down you'll love the mix, the texture it just awesome

What up. If this isnt the proper place for the post please let me know where I need to ask. Is there any danger in eating 2 year old dried out shrooms? They were only stored in a ziploc bag with silica bags. They need to be dehydrated again, they seem to have gained some moisture. Thanks!

For starters it spreads the coir a lot further. Also poo has all that shitty goodness.
Ive noticed that poo/verm subs shrink a lot and coir seems to help a little with that.
I cant give you all the info as i have a small sample size but i just feel lazy and less satisfied with straight coir. I cant tell you why just that's its the case

I use old plates. I make stacks of 3 and wrap them together with plastic wrap. It's nice and sticky so the plates don't slide around and it's free cause I got them out of the trash.

Hey ya'll! I just figured out a problem with my grain hydration and looking for input on solutions.
For bag people: I've found that using aluminum foil to "insulate" my bags against the walls isn't doing enough. I was recommended wrapping a towel around my bags, I'm worried that may be a little bulky.
Basically, the grains that touch the outer walls of my PC are over-cooking a little and turning to mush essentially. The grains for the rest of the bag are fine. So I need to insulate it. I know I'm not the only person that needs to do this. Link me to your teks/products, or just give me some input and I'll do the rest.
Thanks!

How do you prep your grain? Soak? Simmer?
Try using jar rings between the bag and the wall of your pc
