If both plates where poured at the same time (or using the same recipe), how does softness explain separate phenotype's, when both wedges are from the same master?
Lots of genetics? If it were a clone/iso? Different story
Agar stiffness can most definitely affect how a culture grows.

@ mushboy
Good answer, however one has adapted (physically) differently than the other (due to genetics), on the same recipe (same softness), yes?

I wouldnt use adapted. I'd say the culture is expressing itself based off a combo of genetics and the agars surface.
Imo of course

Ok, fair enough. Terms, lol. My point is that the current culture has multi-genetics, it would be ideal to 'express' genetics better suited to the end media, or mix (if possible).

Not too many people worry about that. Otherwise we would see coir agar teks
Time for a test batch me thinks
Edit: only people on here I've seen add 'end media' to grains never post anything relevant (to the subject)

So you reccomend using agar based with the grain used for spawn because you could select the genetics that show the best growth on said media. That is very different than claiming giving any genetics agar based on the spawn media so as to "adapt" them to said grain. Is this the consensus?

I recommend mixing them. Maybe prep separately but mixed grains are the boss

Usually I like to do wbs to wheat bags but I like the way the mixed grains perform so I been doin it like that the past few runs

Well the idea is to G2G everything. Small grains into large grains. Like millet/milo masters into wheat/rye bags.

Ya that's my usual MO, but I like the way mixed grain masters perform. Still g2g into Wheat bags though.

@ mushboy
I mean the substrate the mycelium will ultimately colonize and fruit from (end media), which is not agar or malt extract (also a media). Most people won't have LAB's, so the easiest method, is simple inspection, and agar recipe's, then cloning fruit bodies.
Growing well on malt extract, doesn't mean it will do well with other materials such as cellulose. Ideally you want to cultivate growth that does well on coir + grain (your own).
Each grain is different to another, and coir also varies.
----
@ Quirkmeister92
Maltose, Maltotriose and Maltodextrin (from malting), is made when enzymes decay starch, it's no longer starch. Ideally, the mycelium should be secreting it's own enzymes to decay starch (grain).
It's also not suggested to over cultivate mycelium on sugars.

For giggles (in part), here is a cubensis spore peg (wood) to a spent tea bag (nutrients, nitrogen rich, trace sugar), no starch or grain (pH 6.5).

The cubensis mycelium decayed both the tea phenols, and cellulose (fiber).

Ok so what I said stands, right? You reccomend agar containing starch and cellulose. As for the coco coir you're saying it is more efficiently consumed by mycelium if you adjust the pH? The maximum yield page was kinda iffy.

Okay, so I got a couple dozen prints in the mail last month. One of them the two letter acronym on it is 'BC'. I can't think of what strain that would stand for. Any idea?
