Anyone know what's up with these spots? It's an ape clone on the 4th transfer. Looked fine before I transferred it just trying to get more uniform growth. Then this showed up. It's like something is eating the myc. Took 2 transfers from 4:00 and 7:00 where the myc looked best.

I transfer from moldy/bacterial plates in flow: just turn the plate so that the contamination is closest to you and doesn't cross clean culture with the introduction of flow, pull the lid off furthest from you up first, then lift only high enough to get the wedge: kind of off to the side a little for easier viewing... I save these for last, and change shirts IMMEDIATELY after session, but not particularly sure its necessary... try to catch it before it's too bad, and as a general rule/practice, have multiple plates per culture in the event contamination goes awry
Started following this and my plates are starting to germinate much faster!

Well peroxide breaks down rather quickly, not sure there'd be much left by the time you used the plate. Plus whatever damage it does to mold, should also affect your cube myc

That's what I thought but people say it works. I thought it was bacterial spots so I wanted to try it. Can't see it helping already growing mold tho

I would. Looks like your 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions are far enough away from the contaminated area. Check the bottom of the plate. If there’s any bacteria hiding you should see it.
When taking transfers from plates like that I always make sure to do them last. Only have the clean plates you intend on transferring to and your donor plate in the SAB. I put a fresh blade on my scalps, flame before each xfer and spray 70/30 iso mix before and after each transfer. After finishing, clean your SAB with 70/30 iso.
I like to practice on plates like that so if I’m in a situation where I need to save a culture and don’t have backup spores I’m prepared... My two cents.

Any theories? What type of stove you using?
Shoddy manufacturing? I think you said your water is high in minerals?
I used my aa at my folks place. Lots of minerals in that water but it never hurt my pc. After a few months tho you can see sediment in the toilet tanks.

I have a gas range. The manual explains pitting is caused by metals in the water. Perhaps I don't clean it well/often enough. Our water is not from a well, but we do use a water softener. That said I don't drink the tap water as I dislike the taste. When the softener runs empty there is noticeable mineral deposits on the showerhead. I think it's a combination of causes.

most pitting on aluminum cookware comes from the cleaning process not the cooking process.
clean aluminum with acid not alkaline cleaners. use cream of tartar or lemon scrub
