I have plates from January that have pins popping up now. They last a while. Probably at least 4 months depending on water content in your agar.

In a clean plate, pins will drop spores, decay, and grow mycelium... using wet/soft agar and pouring thick will last even longer... I recommend wrapping them well to limit loss of moisture, and gas exchange

What do you guys think of this? It’s P. Galindoi I’m about to put it to grains but iffy. It’s almost to symmetrical I think it’s mold. And it’s not turning orange like the spore swab did. I’m quite a few transfers in though.

I dont think it's mold... let it fully colonize and unwrap to see if it will develop color for possible confirmation... I don't think they all do it but not really familiar with the species beyond reading in passing

Yeah the original spore swab turned that orange color. I think I’m just going to put it to grains and see. I keep transferring and getting the same thing with no obvious contam yet. So I guess it’s time to try and see.

My P.E.U. took for ever to pin. Some cakes went 3 flushes before my PEU pinned. Now it looks like its aborting, feels like maybe it dried out from sitting so long. Anything i can do?

Fold tinfoil into a shallow boat (over a jar or something slightly larger than the cake) and set the cake in it with about 1/4" of water overnight for a drink

My PEU takes forever to pin and sometimes pushes out fruits that abort and turn kinda black capped..., never really found a way to prevent it but the most part they are normal fruits. If left too long, the green caps eventually turn really dark almost black looking (not from spores, just some kind of reaction as the mushroom matures)

Since we're talking PEU weirdness... I have a plate that started from a swab (PEU white, thanks nate!) that likes to put out super thick myc in rings. I keep transferring, but the myc is super heavy and often when I cut into it, it just slides across the top of the agar. I'm on T5 and it just keeps doing the same thing. I'm ready to spawn to grains or give up at this point. (I'm not even sure it's PEU myc honestly. I had to get this going from a swab that wasn't germinating so I shoved it into the damn agar and twisted it to get something to grow.)

Go for it and see what happens. Not much you can do if you're getting repeated growth.

Man that’s weird my PEU has been super aggressive and putting out some great flushes. Not slow to pin and super fast to colonize.

I'll grab some pics tonight. I just thought I'd jump in on the convo because I've been thinking about it since I transferred it last sunday.
I always use softer AGAR, but not cap's SAGARI recipe. Right now I'm at 450ml water, 5g agar, 8g LME. I tried to get it to germ twice by z-swabbing a plate with it, then on the third time just JAMMED it in that agar and twisted (read on here about others doing that with pretty good results, figured it was worth a try). That did the trick it seems.

Yeah, I just read so much about rings=hidden contam. I've spawned agar myc with rings that grew out just fine. I'm not in a super rush to spawn anything I've got on agar, though. I'm getting super close to capacity on what I can grow right now until I finish Mushroomlandia (I'm building out a closet for mycology work lulz)

On my second grow, spawned some of those jars that were ready to go and they’re already pinning at 9 days. Hoping to see a canopy!
