Dark circle on SFD next to SHIP on my liquid culture jar. Trich? The mycelium in the jar looks ok but I know that’s not a sign of much.

I can't really tell from the pic but it doesn't look too good. Are you swirling in such a way that the liquid hits the filter? Or, did you let the the filter remain wet after the pc cycle? I've seen trich grow through the sfd before when i let it stay wet too long after the pc.

SFD was dry through the PC cycle. Not much liquid has hit the lid but I’m sure some has. May just give it another shot and clean out this lid really good. I have a small pressure cooker in addition to a presto so it’s easy to do a single jar.

Anybody know how long you can keep spare casing after pasteurizing? Just did some 50/50+ for the first time and have a couple quarts left over.

I'd always recommend starting a new run any time it looks like you may be running into a problem. The worst that'll happen is you'll end up with twice as much magic.
I don't recommend letting casing sit. It's just not worth it too me and it's rather easy to re pasteurize. I'd give it a day or three but after that I'd just re cook it.

Yeah I guess I just wanted to be ahead but I’d rather sacrifice two hours making it then lose all of the time that went into the jars and tubs before that point.

My BRF cakes are pinning at 90% colonization. Should I birth soak and fruit?

Both nocked up on 5/11 with an Ecuadorian MS syringe.

For shoeboxes, are you guys just leaving the lid on the entire time? Spawned some about a week ago, look fully colonized, don’t wanna screw them up!

I've done my last 20+ shoeboxes with Cripsy's method (preheating in 200f oven for couple hours prior to bucket tek)
I have noticed less contamination, but I can't attribute that to the coir prep for sure...but it hasn't given me issues, mushies seem to be liking it and it's easy to do I'm probably going to keep prepping the coir like this

Your jars are a tad bit bacterial. All that extra moisture in there is not a great sign. They appear to be pint jars? Also not recommended as they tend to stall. The colony is trying to reproduce in the face of the competitor. Another sign that there is an issue. I'd let them continue to colonize and see if they finish. Based on how they look then, I would make a decision on birthing them or not. Some cakes will still fruit even when bacterial, it just really depends on the extent and type of contamination.

How is it getting FAE? What is your plan on fruiting the shoebox?

I thought the lid is loose enough fitting that it would have enough FAE to fruit, similar to a monotub.

Most monotubs have holes on all 4 sides. The loose fitting lid is sufficient for colonizing the substrate but once its 100% percent colonized you need to introduce it to fruiting conditions. Proper FAE is critical as it allows evaporation to occur across the surface. This is a major pinning trigger.

I fruit my shoeboxes with the lids on. They get plenty of FAE as is.

I think they are more likely to dry out than not breathe enough. Those lids allow tons of air in.

I enjoy stacking shoeboxes. The weight keeps a better seal on the.lids ie less drying.
Cubes.need very little fae to fruit.

Same, right now I have 11 shoe boxes stacked by a window. I literally forget they're there. I rotate them every day or so... but that's mostly because I'm bored and like to peek in on them (without opening). Here's how I do shoeboxes.

Haha, thanks. They were a pain to make, so I'm glad they're helpful
I've recently been taking some wild clones and getting a lot of bacteria, so I tried something new this weekend, I attempted black tea anti-bacterial AGAR... (used katbusa's tek)

So, I thought initially that this tek was junk because bacteria showed up right away... turns out I'm an IDIOT and added 25mg (1 ml = 1 mg water) of BREWED Black Tea... so basically I added a very small amount of brewed tea to some water, agar, and lme. I was supposed to use 25mg of loose black tea to steep in 500ml of water...
This is why you follow teks exactly kids
I'll probably try it again next time, as this bacteria on these wild clones is really problematic. Since they're not cubes I'm uncertain if the josex poke and puck method will work.
