50-80 cents a bag is hella cheap man. If you using a 23 qt presto u can fit 4ish 5 lb bags in.thats 4 tubs worth in one go for some couch change.

I shake at like 5 days too. Maybe 20-40 grains have growth. Then make sure I do it well, so a 3rd time is never necessary.
I don't really know where the 30 percent thing came from. Seems logical to me to shake once as early as you can to start getting innoc points spread around.
@shaper Bags make somethings a lot easier or even possible for edibles. You can inoculate sterile substrate. Don't really think it changes too much for the cubes unless you want to make lots and lots of spawn quickly

I don't shake prior I just let the wedge sit. I used to make my agar to where it would becone liquid with a good shake. A2g in 10-12 days.
Now it sits for 5 days then I shake.

I get mine for 39cents Haha
Ok so I have been running into alot of stalled bags lately and I have no idea why .. my spawn is clean or atleast as clean as I have always thought it to be .. but seriously 1 qt to 5 qts I am seeing no recovery at all .. I am cooking them for 4 hours 20 minutes usually so i dropped these to 3 hours 55 and still same thing is it possible that the grains are producing too much gas or what the fuck .. literally making me wonder what's up

Damn do you think the grains might be too dry? Have you been hydrating them a different way lately?

Hm what kinda grain u using.
If it's recovering in a jar it should recover in a bag.
Do you prep them separately?

Looked like wheat in previous pics if it was the same grain bags giving issues?
I've had a couple bags stall before but I think it was some kind of hard to spot contamination/bacterial issue going on

Hmm I don’t see how they would recover in jars but not bags, doubt its your cook time because I’ve seen grains cooked 5+ hours still grow just slower but recovery was about the same. Maybe the culture you’re expanding isn’t as clean as you thought? Or maybe the bags were still kinda hot? I’ve done that and it killed the myc even though it was just warm to the touch I think the middle of the bag still had some heat.

Nope I make all the grain the same time .. same way ... the only difference is cook times jars are 2.10 and bags 4.20
And its wheat .. I am using the same bags I always have maybe the filter patch is getting sealed ? Its .2 to begin with but I used the same filter with my previous bags .. and 4 bags out of the 9 I did the other day did colonized lost 5 to no recovery
I allow them to cool till the next day

Can I use the heating element on my stove top to sterilize my tools for cloning? I dont have a torch on hand and I was planning on putting my sab on my kitchen counter beside my stove.
You can't.
Build an alcohol lamp out of a spare wide-mouthed jar and a wick. It's what Mycologist217 has been using for years and unlike a torch or lighter it allows you to keep both your hands free while you handle, well, pretty frikken hot equipment, which is always a plus.
Why not exactly?
Kitchen is fine guys... SAB functions on principle of it's name (still air) regardless of where it's sitting...
Ibu, those jars are super wet (not according to the tek) and crazy bacterial... you can see how the "condensation" is thickening up like snot? Not just water... also note how the culture looks matted and thick... telltale sign of bacterial infection IME... I'd start over and dry your oats MUCH better
I shake right after SAGARI drops

I assuming but same culture as well?
Next batch go thru and label which petris to which jars all the way to bags. Maybe you can start at the source that's a weird problem to have.
