only time i've seen coco go moldy was when it was hydrated and left in a bin with the lid on too long

I use Bod's bucket tek and have never had any problems with contaminants.
I do use all of it in on sitting tho. I don't leave it for days.

If you do unmodded tubs it's basically the same thing as leaving it in a bucket.
I'm not taking any chances and precooking my coir from now on. Shit put me back a days work

You could keep blinds open for natural light. That’s what I’ve been doing with mine and they seem to grow the same as if I’d have my lights on.

How old were the bricks before use made your batch?
I just add cold water now easier and I don't have to wait.

Timers are cheap... if natural light is not a possibility
Cooked (boiled) some coir a few weeks ago; all but 2 of 14 boxes triched out... not saying it's directly related, but I've not done it again, nor seen any green since

That’s shitty, I do ten pound blocks at a time and leave it hydrated in a closed tote for as long as it takes for me to get to it. Sometimes it sits in there for a month.

I'm finding sporeload to be a very real issue: used to get away with hydrated coir sitting in a bucket for weeks: now I can't turn around without it growing something

Kinda coir are you using cap.
Spores have a really rough time germing on coir this can be agreed on. But sometimes there's other things in the coir that easily germ coir.
Usually living mycelium is to blame.

My first ever tub is on its 5th flush lol. Looks like it’s only gonna grow a couple shrooms. Should I just bury it after this? I’ve got some grain jars that should be ready in a week.

Not saying you should... But my coir had a white mold look to it and I didn't really give a shit and used it. Was very minimal I was expecting failure but it worked perfectly.

Either way bucket tek coir is work the risk I’m not going back to the old teks of pasteurizing hpoo every time I need substrate.
Over a year of using eco earth and I only had one bad batch of coir that was with exo terra.

Do you guys prefer 60mm or 100mm plates? 60 seem so small when I use them but they’re a lot cheaper looking to buy another case today.
