I'm pretty sure RR always advised against that. Multiple people have since spoken to it's effectiveness though. It's on my list of shit I want a big group to "challenge" with documented grows.
Edit: In the thread I linked, I reference that RR used to recommend it, so it's possible you read his older posts. But RR wasn't 100% correct on everything, so either way, experiment yourself.

We’ll see what happens hah. There were a couple grains covered in mycelium when I shook, so we’ll see what ultimately happens. Fingers crossed. First time w agar and grain.

They've been like that maybe 2-3 days haven't changed much really, hasn't turned any colors. Just makes me worry, very disheartening though.

All my 12 jars have growth and no signs of contamination! My two pint virto jars have no sign of growth but will in a week and same with my LC. Once my LC grows I have 15 pint jars I'm going to use.

i do. Best position is on a table where your thighs barely fit underneath

Question: Could medical gauze be used in place of polyfill for filters? I figure something sterilized with gas & gamma radiation and intended to directly touch exposed human tissue's gotta be good enough for shrooms, no?
I hate to make waste and got brought up to reuse, so having a steady stream of material would be ideal. Plus it already comes in pretty thin, easy to handle units so it'd be amazing to handle.
Iunno if I should've made a separate thread for this or nah, but I figured I'd ask here first.
gauze is cotton and stuff will grow on it. Sounds like contam Central. Poly is plastic so that won't happen

I used to shake right away to try distribute the mycelium. Then I just dropped it in and let it go to 20% before shake after reading a few places that it is not recommended for the vigor the mycelium. Main reason I quit shakeing right away is it didn't seem to speed it up at all nor spread it with consistent results. Mabye worked a few times out of 50+ jars. With Caps SAGAR method I can see it working better but I also like seeing stuff growing were it should be. If I see suprise fluff (contams) were the agar isn't then I got a heads up and less guessing on a possible shit jar. I have saved about 4 days to a week since I just drop then shake at 20% probably because the mycelium can keep running rather than recover like a naughty baby after a good shaking.

I let the agar wedges go about 3 or so days before shaking them up. Made some other jars from a spore swabs I took so I’ll leave those alone till about 20% and see what happens. Of the 5 clones, 4 of them are recovering quite well. One was a tissue sample myce from a pin that I plucked from a cluster in the tub, so don’t actually know how it fruits. It’s going ok but slower than the others, funny enough it had the ropiest mycelium haha. Ultimate goal is to put the 5 clones against one another and keep whichever performs best. Got some other strains I’ll be working on too, gonna get them to plates this weekend. Need more grain jars 👀

Syringes due for delivery on Thursday, going to get my jars and agar PC'd tonight and tomorrow to be ready to knock up as soon as they show up. I'm so excited, all I want to do is talk about it but won't see any of my friends who are into it until this weekend.
