I would assume it has some effect, but I don't know of anything documented or proven. I just figure it'd be easier on the myc so maybe helping colonization or digestion or something. Not sure, I'm just guessing. If you record your next before/after weights, let me know.

I don't get burst grains when I just dump boiling water on grains in the bucket. But it's easy for me to simmer incorrectly and burn WBS. I also use the cheapest I can find.

Right on, yeah I dunno why this has been happening lately but my wbs consistently gets fuqqed when I try the boiling water pour n 30min+ soak.

I have similar thoughts to you around the water content but I just havent really found many facts but I will keep playing around with water content and try n find out for myself.  I will try and weigh my grains from 16hr soak vs 24 hr vs the fooman style and see how it compares

Check craigs list. I've purchased 100s of jars on craigslist. Haven't even
used them all since I do jars to bags, but I found them while looking for PCs
and they were too good of a deal to pass on.

Same. OfferUp as well. I just got a 160 liter Cabelas that was only used once ever for $200. Time to get some fruits to put in it!

I have about 25 pint jars in the barn with 3 quart jars. I have another 12 jars that are in use right now.  I didn't want to use half pints with grains.

i was gonna say this to him, I haven't had any luck yet but I've seen several members score 100+ quart jar stashes for like $20-$30  One dude I saw got something close to 1000 for $100. I bought 144 brand new late last year they are like $15 a case here (canadian dollars). How much does a new 12 pack of quart jars go for in USA?

I think i payed 10 for a case of 12 1/2 pint jars. I think pints are the perfect size for me. I don't spawn to monotubs or anything like that.  I use old coffee containers.

I've been wondering. Why do y'all use mason jars with two piece lids?

Here in the Netherlands those are hard to come by, do I just use food jars with one piece lids, drill a hole in the lid, stuff with poly, done!

There are probably arguments against this but I haven't run into any problems with them yet.

You read my li'll tripreport

That's why I was puzzled why you guys do all that work. Or are single piece lids like we have here just not a thing where you are? Bc workload-wise I would say single piece ftw

Dude, I use pickle jars, sauce jars, whatever. If it's big enough and has a tight lid I use it. Best part is they're free:shrug:

First experience with agar to grain. I now have myc growing into a couple oats from the wedge. Would it be beneficial to shake the jars at this point to spread it out, and then again at 30% or so?

Nice haul! I'll try to stay on topic the best i can with this short story.  I collect old bottles from the 1800s and there was an ad on craigslist selling bottles. They sold me three bottles that are worth 300 to 600 dollars for 30 dollars. Sometimes they have cheap prices on craig's list

I scooped this yesterday for $200 on CL. Cabelas 160 liter dehydrator with 22 tray capacity, although they only had 11. They retail for $450. They bought this about 7 years ago, used it once, and it sat inside since. It's essentially brand new. Now I just need to fill it.
