Thinking about buying some Rye Berries from amazon. I'm pretty sure it's 10 pounds and will last me a long time.

10 lbs won't last that long, but will get you started. There are cheaper options for grains, depending on where you live. Oats, Wheat, Wild bird seed...

There are some feed stores around here that may have something. I live in a pretty small town and there's not any big stores here.

Well yeah, they seal with the Tyvek as well, but the Tyvek "filters" the air as the PC cools. And also importantly it provides a layer between the opening folds of the bag so they don't seal itself and pop. I've seen a few people get away with no Tyvek and just folding the bag a certain way, but mine popped most of the time or stretched out to an unreliable amount.
Can you share your bag micron rating, PC cycle details, whether you have sterilizer or PC, and method of folding the bag or whatever? I already have a bunch of sleeves and actually drape them over the opening of the bag when I go to inoculate so I'm sure I'll keep on, but am curious.
I use a 23 qt presto or 22qt mirro with 6x 4 lb bags 0.2 or 0.5 bags. I fold accordion style, put jar lids and the trivet, the two bags onon the bottom level are placed with the folds facing upwards, I use an empty jar to keep them folded while I prepare the next two, but first I place two tall 1/2 pint jars (with lids on) full of water in the gaps and then fill water in the cooker to 1.5” below the top of the bag and put the next two bags folds down with two more full 1/2 pints and then do the last layer the same with a plate on top and close the lid. PC at 15 psi for 3 hours, then lower heat to minimum needed to keep lit for another half hour and then cut the heat. I used to get a lot of popped bags before I added the 1/2 pints and tapering the heat off. Now they only pop/break if i run the cooker to hot and it gets close to dry.

Im pretty satisfied i grow mushrooms, i tought i will fail when jars we're half time colonized, but my shoboxes are finishing third flush, not nothing great in yield but like i sayd im satisfied i didn't fail all the way. My biggest problems have been surface conditions, its too dry or too wet, i didn't misted like two days before today's morning and with that many little pins aborted, caps turned black Much love and thanks to all of you.
Also which will last longer spore prints or syringes? I have both but Idk make syringes from prints or no

Instead of rye berries i went ahead and bought WBS seems like better option for my location. I also picked up some corn syrup for LC

WBS is relatively expensive compared to bulk feed grains. Furthermore WBS is a mix of grains which makes prep more finnicky.

Prints will last way long than syringes. Not exact sure on time frames.

They both last years. Well more than long enough to make infinity more spores anyway.

WBS works great if you prep it just right. I recommend a ~16 hour soak approach rather than teks that involve heat as they can often burst grains. Then just PC for 90-120min and it should be perfect.

Do you have any metrics on how much weight they put on with your soak method? I just dump boiling water in a Home Depot bucket, toss the WBS + gypsum in and leave it for a few hours. I usually notice a 40% weight increase when all is said and done (fan dried, ready to be loaded into jars/bags). For comparison, my oats see an average 85% increase, but I run those buckets with a second batch of boiling water after 1-3 hours in the first.
It's probably also worth noting that I strain the corn/sunflower seeds from my WBS so I only wind up with milo and millet.

Look at me go!

That's what i will try and do. Right now i have 12 BRF jars knocked up with golden teacher. I have 4 cc of spore solution left and have no idea what to do with it.

I have not measured the weight of the grain but that is a good idea and I should do that. Is there a relation between the water absorbed in the grain and the yield or performance where water (or a lack thereof) creates complications?
I strain out corn/sunflower seeds in my birdseed as well. I toss my grains in the jars fairly wet; i only strain/air dry for 45 min or less. I just keep shifting the birdseed around and tilting the strainer until I get no more water to drip out.
I have done your approach (kinda fooman style) and i have had some good success in the past with it but now it often creates clumps and burst grains. I am buying cheap birdseed, though, I will admit.

Longest week of my life.

Best part was it was ez felt not sfds so after a couple times through the sterilizer they lost there integrity and started to fail.
One of those cases where if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

I just dump em in a wire mesh strainer and then pour excess water out by tilting it. I then mix them up to try and redistribute the moisture and then repeat the draining process. Then after 30 min of doing this off n on and I just put it in the jars even if it is fairly wet. It soaks into the seed while cooking
