Do it. My 50 gal tote has squares 8x8-10 inches for arm holes. Makes moving easier (obviously) Probably bigger I'm just guessing from memory. It's in the garage filled will shit atm

Holy cow Sunny that's brilliant. Like you lift the lid of the receiving jar up by the poly when putting things like LC, Agar, etc to grain?? That simplifies everything so much.
I feel like if I did this it would just rip out the polyfil? I use 2-piece lids, gasket side down, a quarter turn loose then foil over. When I get them out of the PC the gasket has created a seal that takes a lot of effort for me to open often. I've bent the lid part from opening them many times as a result... how would the poly hold up to that? Am I missing something really basic?
Yes you are. Flip the lids. Makes everything a breeze. That may be the one thing fucking you up. Boom. Single peice lids without the hassle of adhesives or loosening for ge

I flip the lids over so it doesnt create a seal at all. Once they are unscrewed they come off really easily this way but I always fumble with the two pieces so grabbing it and pulling it up by the polyfil would work great for me.
Edit: thanks trypt lol

How many new plates do you make when making transfers? Is it a set amount normally for you, or do you take samples from anything that looks good?
I have 3 new germination plates and don't know if I should take 3 transfers from each to T1 or just 1 from each. And then from there should I just transfer 1:1 till I have something I like and then "expand" it to additional plates?

I feel like I waste a ton of plates so I couldn’t help you there. I just transferred ten PEU plates to ten new plates, 10 PE to 10 New plates, and some AA+. Idk why I do that. I take one from each plate. At this point I should just toss them all. I know they’re all clean and I just keep transferring to pretty much keep them alive without overcrowding the plate
Probably should just toss a good one in the fridge. I’ve heard some people say the just keep them at room temperature and store but idk how I get pins within 2 weeks on my dishes. I used to clone them but fuck that they never turn out great.

I never had luck doing it like this unfortunately
I do rub side down and break seal in front of hood.

I don’t lift it by the poly, I just hold it in place really. I feel a bit silly posting this pic but here it is. Silicone for one piece lids are a good idea, the only reason I want to go plastic is because the rust bothers me, I don’t think the grain minds 😝

Works fine for me. polyfil sucks, but the one time I used this lid the master and receiving jar turned out great

Yeah, just toss anything in the fridge that you want to put on pause. Thats a lot of extra work and time transferring.

SunnyDayze said: ...@mycolorado, I know from years of canning food not to release too much pressure too fast. I understand loosening would help that but if you don’t, the exploding jars aren’t fun, especially when you have them about face height pulling them out of the canner.
But this is not canning. With canning, there is no filter for gas exchange, creating a vacuum. I have a hard time believing that a jar with a hole and filter would create enough pressure to make it explode.
believe it. water boils at 212F/100C at atmospheric pressure. water boils at 250F/121C at 15psi above atmospheric pressure. dropping from 15psi to 0psi rapidly causes lots water to boil instantaneously, producing lots of steam. steam moves mountains. plus, there's not just pressure but also a seriously sharp temperature change which ordinary glass really doesn't like. if the filter gives way before the glass, then it was just a bunch of wasted energy. if the filter doesn't give way, then glass breaks. could go either way. there's many filter styles, some more likely to give than others.
What I would have said but way better 😂
The filtre for air exchange would help but not enough when dumping pressure quickly. If I’m in a major hurry I will dump just a second or two at a time every few minutes but that scenario happened to me so I’m very careful now.
Scary! I believe you guys, I think I was just feeling argumentative or something. I bet letting a bunch of cold air in on the hot surface of the jars makes them far more susceptible to breaking at that time as well. Cheers!

Can anyone shed some light on what’s happening here? Not the greatest pics but it’s a lc I made of “mexi-cube” that has these little mushroom cap shapes floating around.

How did you noc that up ? Do you have a stir bar in that? My stir bar will make the agar turn into little chunks and then the myc still grows off that...
