Seems relatively risky, no? The oats are cheap, wouldn’t it be better to just pitch (can bury the oats outside) and make anew? Excited about these clones, they had uniform growth radially from the piece of tissue I biopsied, so just waiting for them to grow out on new plates and I think they’ll do well, wouldn’t wanna take a step backwards if those jars are screwed up!
No, all the vectors are the same, the only added one is from the spore solution. The jars appear clean right? If you don't mind tossing them why not inoculate them anyway?
Worst case you have a little compost, best case you get shrooms seems like a win either way

A lot of people still say you have a short “window” against bacteria and such when we sterilize. I assume that’s why you use your jars relatively fast. I’ve been wondering about that myself. Have some extra jars and didn’t have time to use them. Guess I’ll try it out and see.

Wait... so you're saying that NOT MISTING your SAB caused you to get less contams? Do you just set it up and wait 10 min?

Yo where’d you find that rack mushboy? I’ve been looking for something like that.
I use a dry towel under, I know that’s bad, but if not my SAB slides around the table.

So ya'll just excessively wipe everything down before it goes in and that's it?
Also, I have no way to have a stationary SAB, I need to put it up between sessions. How long would you say I'd need to wait between setting it up and using it?
(aside: good to see I'm not the only mother fucker with shakey hands doing this )

Ya'll are blowing my mind here. I thought you had to have some bullshit strickness. Let me see if this is how I should fix my routine:
-Set everything up
-Place most items I plan to work with in the SAB -Mist down the interior with soapy water/70% (usually both) -Wait 10 Min -Work
And I should add -Wipe everything down with alcohol before going in
that's it?

I just set a towel down, which I probably shouldn’t, spray it with Lysol (probably does nothing), then put my stuff in there set the tub down and work.

I nailed my sab to my surface so mine never moves.
That rack came with my house but I'd imagine bb/beyond or target.
Shaper, never spray iso in the box

You could also use Oust or Lysol Neutra in the room and around the SAB just before gloving up, wiping down, and getting to work? In general, can’t go wrong with being over cautious. Wipe down everything with iso or even a bleach solution, surgical/N95 mask, gloves and tyvek sleeves, oust... maybe overkill but if you can, why not? Can’t hurt unless your spraying stuff directly on live mycelium I wouldn’t think.
I used that poster tack/gum to hold a SAB in place before.

Cleaning your work area doesn’t do shit to avoid contams? Ok. Sounds legit. My bad.

They won’t kill everything, for sure, but they will kill some stuff. I’ve read that soapy water to get the mold spores to stick rather than float in the air is the most effective. I’m of the opinion that, outside of a clean room, it’s all about increasing odds. Admittedly, I don’t know shit about SAB. Last time I used one was like 2013. LFH these days and I still spray the shit out of everything with all kinds of stuff. For example, definitely hose my LFH screen down with Lysol just on the off chance that the one mold spore that is stuck on it doesn’t dislodge an hour into my agar work. Overkill, for sure, maybe but doing that correlates with 0 contams so I do it just to feel better.
Some people pray, I use bleach. Lol

I can't imagine trying to breathe with all that bleach and lysol. You have a LFH, stop choking yourself out with superfluous air sprays man. You're gonna want those lungs one day.

This is why I love SAB chat. People bleed thru awful habits and unnecessary steps.
