flowhoods and noise canceling headphones are a bad combo. i just did a bunch of inoculations and when i got done i realized my flowhood lost power but i didn't reallize because my noise canceling headphones are so effective.

That's where I would take it from, you might have to do a few transfers to get away from the nasty in there.

So I made the holes of my SAB a bit wider. I was having difficulty doing G2G so I am going to prop it up on pint jars and wrap the base so I have more space to lift/tip my masters. Trying to reduce how much I shimmy and shake, just wanna pour em out. I got 11 pints of MN-APE coming along and I'm in the middle of PC runs on 50qt jars of oats. I'm thinkin 5qt per pint.

Yeah Ill mess with it a little. I didn't have time today and I am sure the longer I wait the worse it will get. I have other plates but thats the first sign of semi rhizomorphic growth from the PEU since I've put the spores to agar. Most of the plates have been fluff so far. Im going to see what I can do

PEU jars that were on wbs went to oats with G2G. Looks bacterial as fuck but I’m not tossing them it was my first time making oats and I think they were a little wet.
I’ll see what happens

Looks like you've got poorly colonized birdseed in there. I don't like prepping grain blends, some are either under or over hydrated depending on size/build/cook time, but NEVER is it perfect.

Yeah that’s all oats with just wbs used for the g2g. The millet never seems to get fully covered with mycelium like the rest of the seed.
Might have another tub of trich with this one Atleast I’ll know it’s from the jar
Just switched to oats though so I’ll see how I like those.

Hello all. I’m sure these questions are answered somewhere but there is so much content on all these forums digging through it to find answers to my exact question seems impossible.
Just want to be sure I have the process down. I’m using pre mixed sterilized bag that has a couple lbs of rye grain and a few lbs of what I think is called “substrate”. Anyway the steps as I understand them are:
-Inoculate bag (of course sterilize everything, heat up syringe and etc) - basically leave it alone for roughly 10 days or until grain is completely white. Light doesn’t matter in this process but temperature does. Roughly between 70-76 degrees. - now here is where my question comes in. I then break it all up and mix what is now the colonized grain with the “substrate” and transfer into my plastic tub. At this point do I add more substrate? Or do I layer the bottom with coco coir? Or is that just when your doing cakes? Should I add another bag of uncolonized grain/substrate to my already colonized grain? - that’s pretty much the only piece I think I’m not clear on. From there I believe I’m dropping the temp. Exposing to indirect sunlight, allowing airflow. Then waiting about another 15-20 days?
Thanks for any insight.

TLDR: How do I get rid of mold spores in my place?
Hey ya'll... So I'm having some mold issues in my new place and looking for help. I came back to 20 plates of agar I'd poured that I let sit for about 36 hours in the SAB I poured them in. Wrapped the whole thing in plastic and left it. Came back and 8/20 plates were already growing mold on them at spots. Similar thing happened with some oats I prepped, basically mold took over as soon as I was done prepping them.
Basically I'm getting mold all over the place. This is significantly different than my last place. I had none of these issues, so this kind of contamination is pretty frustrating.
I have an "air filter" fan running to pull as much out of the air as I can, but that's not going to get rid of it. I don't have vent filters either as my building is radiant heat. I rent too, so I can't do anything major to solve this issue since there's no visible mold.
So what else can I do? These spores are everywhere in my apartment as this has happened in multiple rooms I do mycology work. A flow hood isn't an option I have as it would cost too much for me to make a mobile one that is small enough. I have pretty good SAB procedures and cleanliness, which I plan to stepping up my practice (the remaining 12 plates that I noced up have successfully avoided mold to this point, so I'm hoping that holds.)
I can't have this kind of contamination rate and keep working on mycology... it's not an option, too much. How can I lower the mold spores in my place?

No, I see what you're getting at
I started doing this after I found the plates to try to suck all the spores into the filter. This has been a "cleanup" attempt at running it.

just checking! maybe you just botched some of the pour
ime if it were a real mold/spore problem, every plate would turn to shit at roughly the same rate.
if plates randomly contaminate at irregular intervals then id assume its operator error.

I'm going to keep trying, and I'm SURE there was operator error, I'm not saying I'm infallible. It's just that the quantity of mold is new and it is so fucking persistent. It's happened at every point (agar, grains, etc) at such high rates it's really discouraging.
I feel like I had my shit down to less than 10% problems no matter what. Ran it like that for almost a year... now I move and I'm back up to 40% contam rates.
It's like I went from easy mode to hard mode
It's super disheartening. I spent last week working really hard with a couple places to make a Laminar flow hood happen, but I really just don't have enough space in my place to make this happen. The cheapest I could find something that would fit in my place and be of a reasonable weight (under 50lbs) to be mobile was around $750... and I just don't have that for a hobby right now.

Build your own flowhood.
98% of the time it's operator error.
Change one thing at a time. Each person has their own problems or for some none at all.
Keep at it

Seems like many people are having mold issues right now. Maybe it’s just shit luck or everyone’s slacking on their sterile technique. Maybe it’s the ten million pounds of pollen falling this year Atleast where I’m at
