On the subject of plastics that can withstand sterilization, only PP has a materials/resin identification code assigned. Also known as a recycling code.
1. PETE/PET 2. HDPE 3. PVC 4. LDPE 5. PP 6. PS 7 is a catch-all for other plastics, and is not necessarily always indicated.
Of this list, only PP can be sterilized in a PC. Everything else will warp or shrink. Others can also be used:
- E-CTFE - Ethylene ChloroTriFluoroEthylene or Halar
- ETFE - Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene
- FEP - Fluorinated ethylene propylene
- PC (No longer than 20 minutes) - Polycarbonate
- PFA - Perfluoroalkoxy alkanes
- PMP/TPX - Polymethylpentene
- PP - Polypropylene
- PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene or Teflon
China has a different set of codes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recycling_codes#List_of_Chinese_codes_for_plastics_products

Why does my agar do this after PC everytime?
It’s like everything separates. I put the powder into the media bottle, pour boiling water into it, make sure everything is completely dissolved, and then PC.
Everytime this flaking and nasty shit occurs. Never get contam but I assume the nutrients aren’t evenly dispersed.
20g lme 20g agar per liter. But even with 500ml bottles it does it at 10g/10g

Okay I’ll try that next time I thought you had to get it fully dissolved before doing the pc cycles. Do you just shake it up before putting it in the pc.

yah i give the bottle a shake but you dont use boiling water with powders. it forms a 'skin' on the lme and makes those lumps.
ever try making a cake with hot water? same shit happens.
its also pointless to worry about dissolving the powder pre pc. its going to dissolve during the cycle.

Alright cool thanks for the information. I guess I assumed you had to do that from the first time I did pasty plates but I guess that’s a whole different story since they’re no pours. Appreciate the help bro

you boil the potato flakes because you need to extract the nutes into the water/dissolve the large flakes. if it were powder potato you could skip the boiling.
in fact if you cold soaked the flakes it would also work but whos got time to soak potato flakes for agar

sticky because the boiling wateer he used cooked the powder into clumps. preventing it from dissolving.
thats why you use ice cold water to make super clear lme agar

Yeah I figured by pouring boiling water in the media bottle and shaking the bottle that it would mix it.
