I understand about sterilizing for the sense of it killing off all the good bacteria and what not .. but clean spawn plus flow hood you will be ok
well he's kinda doing something different there. He sterilized, then mixed it in front of the hood and kept it in the bags after. He wasn't exposing sterile poo to open air contams until after it was colonized in the bag.
@trip and that's why I started with, bucket tek is fine most of time for most people. But it's not 100% for everyone.
just get clean spawn that all u need w coir real shit
clearly you didn't look at how clean the jars were in the op of my trouble shoot thread and are just ignoring the fact that it went moldy on it's own in a week on several different makes. Are you just trolling, or seriously in capable of picking up new details to consider?

Cows poop pies. Those jars dont look 100% clean. But i don't doubt coir can mold on it's own

and that's the key to my whole point. The coir was going moldy on it's own, un mixed, in a week.
Then I tried oven pasteurizing my coir and the problem disappeared.
I'm telling ya'll, I didn't suddenly start running all shitty spawn for weeks straight and then blame coir. Top fruits and verm-only tests were fine, only coir was turning shit.
/e and I'm reasonable sure everything that's not sterile has microbes living on it, including coir.

Microbes sure, but beneficial ones? Naw. The process of pressing coir bricks is too hot

Check the label for added microbes, avoid that if possible. I used it a long while without any issues until the winter. That's when I was having the contam issues we were discussing with it and the texture of the product suddenly changed(maybe unrelated ).
There's several brands of that stuff so no guarantee it's the same brand I had troubles with.

@ trypt. I said beneficial/Benign, I dunno what's more applicable. What I understand is, sterile things contam faster, and you add a bunch of microbes when you hydrate it. The point I think is most relevant is that microbes will make it harder for molds to get a foot hold.

Can someone put coir under a scope and see if it has microbes??

Or would that be useless

Break it open in front of a flow hood. Grab inner pieces and put them on petri dish
Otherwise you'll just see junk from the air.

Water is safe to drink after boiling for a short time, but it's not sterile. There's still living things in it.
Hell in my case it could have been added to the coir since it was gardening coir at the time(no claims on the label to that effect). We've gotten really far from sometimes bucket tek isn't sufficient to pasteurize and coir can mold on it's own.
