300 sounds too high. You should be aiming for pasteurizing temps, not sterile. Contams get a much easier start on sterile bulk than pastuerized.
I follow Eatyou's oven pasteurizing @170 for a few hours. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20822448

Not always. Bucket tek presumes it's being pasteurized when hydrated with boiling water and works for most.
For some, coir will show mold growth in a week after hydrating. Pasteurizing it ensures it's good.

Then why did my bucket of unmixed, field capacity, week old coir get mold? and why do we pasteurize all bulk substrates other than coir?

i don't have pics from my moldy coir from a few months back. Just have to take my word that it happened repeatedly and oven pasteurizing resolved the issue for me. Or take a peek at the trouble shoot thread i had for it at the time. Jars were nice. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25611348
You can also read into the details of bucket tek and oven pasteurizing. I'm not the only one that has had this issue.
Yes, we mix tubs in open air with contams, that's why sterilizing a bulk sub will work against you and we pasteurize instead. You want the beneficial/benign microbes still in there.
Dirty spawn is the most common cause of moldy tubs before 1st flush, but it's not necessarily the case in every situation.

Actually check this out https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23797148
I understand about sterilizing for the sense of it killing off all the good bacteria and what not .. but clean spawn plus flow hood you will be ok

well he's kinda doing something different there. He sterilized, then mixed it in front of the hood and kept it in the bags after. He wasn't exposing sterile poo to open air contams until after it was colonized in the bag.
Quote:
In front of the flow hood, I dumped a quart of spawn in each bag. Two bags I only used a half quart of spawn in.
Shook vigorously and then put in the 6 quart trays to colonize.
And few days later they were 95% or more colonized, so I cut the plastic off the top and put in the automated room.
@trip and that's why I started with, bucket tek is fine most of time for most people. But it's not 100% for everyone.

Oven won't even get it to pasteurizing temps in 2 hours. Unless it started off hot

When I used to grow bud, I soaked bricks the same way, with in a week it would get mold spots, white yellow, green, used to annoy the fuck out of me. Now I do it like this and if I dont use it right away, its bagged for another day. I say 300 but it's more like 220-250 ish, it's a spin dial so I never go over 300. Plus as for as I can tell I've had clean spawn, any questions I'll toss something, dont want to chance time and material.

I agree, I don't follow eat's timing. Takes more like 5 hours from a cold start. little less if I pop it in after baking something else.
