if you have bacteria present under myc, are you able to get away from it? I can't tell if its tomentose or stressed myc cause it has remained puffy onto the 3rd transfer now
*should mention its RW from spore print

I shared this pic a couple days ago, I've since made the transfer and am hoping to see more noticeable growth by tonight, but in general does the myc being raised that high scream bacteria? My gut says yes, but lacks the experience to rely on that feeling.

it's hard to tell how high it is raised. I would use it. #of transfers has almost nothing to do with how the culture looks. its all genetics and nute content. RW is usually always tomentose

Has anyone figured a clean, quick way of cutting up coir blocks?
I've tried a band saw, and other electric saws and they just make big messes. Serrated knives just take forever, especially against the grain. The only slow but sure way that I have figured out so far that doesn't make a huge mess is to stick a knife through the top or side and delaminate.

buy loose coir for anything less than a full mono. bricks are perfect for full tubs. fuck trying to split them up.

I buy them in 5kg blocks, which expand to 50-60L. 650g bricks are half the price of 5kg blocks.

IME the big 5kg bricks are better quality and cheaper than eco-earth. Break them up with a chisel and mallet. Or just bucket tek the whole thing in a 66qt tub and make 6 monos at a time....

My resin covered butter knife works great. I unwrap and break off chunks in an old tub

Can I use straight silica sand instead of diatomaceous earth? Can I just sprinkle on top of some tubs? Bad fungus gnat problem

I'd say it's worth a shot
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatomaceous_earth
DE is wicked cheap at HD or Lowe's though.
Vinegar traps work really well if placed throughout the house. That's how we dealt with them when we had a problem. Haven't seen any since
