I aim for 5L per kg of coir, but do slightly less. So that'll be 3.5L per 650g brick.
Yea that sounds about right. I use 9L water per 1.6 kg coir. Works out to 3.65L per 650g

So, I moved into my new place and it's a fair bit worse off than I expected. My main problem is that the closet I have for my mushrooms is pretty cold. It's in the kitchen, which is on the far side of my building touching an exterior wall, and the floor is cold as fuck.
What do I do?
I'm thinking getting a space heater and an Inkbird temp control unit and sticking it in there... but I don't want to burn down my place either? Also, I worry that a small space heater will dry the shit out of my space, but I don't think I can keep that space humid since A) It's a closet with a barely-closing door, so lots of drafts, and B) There's things in there that would do horrible with humidity (paper bags and shit)... So, should I get a thing to keep my closet humid too?
Currently my shoe boxes sit at the low 70s and the temp in the closet in the low 60s. Yes, it's winter, but it's cold!
What do ya'll recommend?

Had a hard time balancing out a heater just outside the grow with maintaining humidity. But I haven't found a better way to deal with it yet in a limited space.
Maybe insulating the closet a bit will help it maintain a bit better since you're against an exterior wall? Might be enough to get you by until it warms up.

Those oil filled heaters work good for shrooms if you absolutely have to heat your grow space. They're safe and don't blow air around.

It's ... a rental. Not sure how I would go about this outside of nailing blankets to the wall.

Yes, winter is almost over, but I'm not going to spend 1/3 of my year not growing because of outdoor temps. And winter is still a couple months from over... maybe you live in a warmer climate where winter ends before late April at best. I'm also not going to go into next year unable to grow.
Why wouldn't you use a heater?

Aren't these a bigger fire hazard though? I'm not familiar with oil heaters, but avoided them because of their greater fire hazard.

Blankets, blocks of foam insulation, depends on what you got around or easy & cheap is all I'm thinking. If you're in low 60's, I'm thinking a little something like that will hold a couple extra degrees without worrying about a heater. mid-high 60's should limp along alright until spring. Could try running dehydrator in kitchen for some warmth as well.

Just curious.. how cold is the closet? I grow in my basement all year and it never gets over 65-67.. i usually use a aluminum dome light with a CFL in it on top of a tub if i'm too worried bout it but cold hasn't been a issue so far although i'm sure another 5-8 degrees would be nice.

Got down to 52 degrees on Saturday night at 11pm. The floor was clocked at 46 degrees
I have no idea how/if this is affecting my shrooms yet... but some of my stuff seems to be not happy, which could also just be the move itself.

Damn, yeah thats cold... i don't think it will hurt anything but will make it grow reallly slowly.. I am too paranoid about fires to use space heaters myself.. but a light and add a bit of heat.. no idea sorry
P.S. i would try insulating the closet.. especially that floor... they have the hard panel insulation you could staple in place, which wouldn't make a mess

Well, currently I'm putting a lot of complaints into my unit for the landlord, so likely I'm going to have wait before I do anything. Also... lol this closet is going to look so ghetto if I insulate it with blankets stapled to the walls.
I'm kind of terrified to use a heater too.
Also, to be fair it's been 20F during the day and down to 2F overnight. It's extra cold right now.

They sell foam board insulation at HD and other hardware stores.Pretty easy to cut to shape with a box knife and tuck against the walls/floor of your space.Doesn't look too ghetto.(sorry no pics, but I have done this to a small shed in the past) I use an oil radiator type heater to keep my garage above freezing thru the winter,(outdoor plants)and I leave it plugged in 24/7.

insulation is the first step, but then just heat the room and don't overthink it. didn't you say your humidity averages at like 60? even with a heater that would be higher than where I am... you can compensate for humidity, but not for frozen myc

Ive got another, I searched but the closest I found was from 10 months ago saying they tired and would post results. Is there any benefit from using grain soak water with the blenderless LI tek? Leaving it colonize a few days would result in a LC correct? But could I pour right away like normal, or am I just as good using water if I'm not going to give the time to colonize for LC

I think that I said that about RH in the area. Current RH is 45%, but I think you're remembering when I did monthly averages. Don't really know what's up in this space.

Has anyone ever had shrooms that ended up only losing a total of ~85% water weight? I have some PESA that I am paranoid about not being fully dried but I dehydrate them 18-24 hours (almost always closer to 24 hours) and I will have 160g wet turn into like 23g dry. Not that I'm necessarily complaining, I am just kinda confused as I've never seen this before with regular ass cubes. Normally my shrooms are like 92% water so this is really different.

When I harvest big fruit with solid stems, they only lose about 85%. Hollow stem fruit lose 90+

Damn that's cold use a heater
Usually when people ask about temps they think 70 is too cold. 52f inside and I'd be a shroomsicle.

Okay right on, I mean these are meaty but they still have a little bit of a hollow stem. The skin seems really thick on them though. That's good to hear, thanks for the heads up.
