I still like my brf>bulk and cakes were easy to lean back on when main grow wasn't doing so hot this winter. Simple, quick process and it works. Easy to do on the side along with plates & grains.

How long would could you keep pasteurized coffee for b4 using it. Also has anyone used hydrated lime to pasteurise straw before?

I dropped a small piece of agar from a cloned B+.I got home Friday night and after two weeks the jars looked like this almost all over. Sorry for the shitty pictures my phone has been abused.

so I shook them and now Sunday morning here they are, definitely white mycelium but my eyes might be missing something.. are the oats too wet?

They're a little moist IMO, and the mycelium looks wispy (almost like mold)...

Hey all, this is my first grow. I'm just curious if bruising at the bottom of fruits on BRF cakes is normal? I've done nothing but mist and fan, but as my fruits are ready for harvest, they're bruising at the base. Is this normal?

Photos? Bruising is usually a good indication that something is off. A photo would help people determine what the thing that is off is.

Don't fan, it's outdated misinformation, unnecessary, and counterintuitive to humidity... may be your whole issue... drying from fanning, overmisting to compensate... cakes are finicky and over responsive to changes in conditions IME... SGFC (or humidity chamber) are designed to be left alone for the most part... pix would be tremendously helpful

Looks like bruising from misting to heavily and directly IMO... try to twist the spray nozzle to get as fine a mist as possible, spray above and away from the tub, allowing the mist to fall with gravity... allow evaporation to occur between mistings to stimulate pinning and avoid over-saturating the cakes... don't fan, if they show signs of insufficient FAE, adjust the lid askew to increase air exchange slightly and gradually... want to find a balance where you're getting enough FAE (really doesn't take much) and maintaining humidity while allowing evaporation to occur at an acceptable/ maintainable level...
Other than the bruising, they look pretty good to me!

Thanks Caps, exactly what I needed to hear. I've been misting directly, so I will change my direction on that! Thanks for the input!

I've always misted fruits directly and never saw them bruise from that once. But when I had cakes in the SGFC I often saw bruised fruits and cakes. As long as you let the water droplets that have accumulated on top of fruits and cskes evaporate before misting again there is no problem at all to mist cakes or fruits as directly as you want. It rains on them in nature as well and they do just fine. As long as you net them evaporate off inbetween.

cakes and bases of stems and whatnot can just bruise from stress from fruiting, I get it every once in a while

For cakes? Probably not. PF cake recipes are very easy to get the moisture right with and I have never seen misting cause bruising specifically at the base like that. Cakes bruise really easily just from cranking out a lot of shrooms for a small surface area so the bruising can just edge over from the cake to the shroom a lil.
Edited because my phone autocorrects correct words to retarded words
