I don't recall having an issue... i did a shake out of the PC.. then one at like 30% using the tire on my snowblower (which scares me, had the bottom pop off a jar once.. no name shit jar though, made a mess)
I like working with RGS, but I think that it holds less water & is probably less nutritious overall than some of the more popular grains. I only grow a minimal amount, itβs inconspicuous, easy to prep & works well enough for my needs, but I would probably use it for pint masters & expand it to something like oats if I was going to run a bunch of tubs.

I think it's probably in the trillions, I concede to your point. would it compromise your work if you worked from the side of the flow?

No idea. This is one of those situations where I'd say, "A SAB is a $7 clear tub with holes in it" and load my dirty plates in that instead. Even with an SAB, I throw out dirty plates unless I have no choice, and the rare iffy plates get worked on at the end of the session.
Luckily my contam rate is very low, even with cloning, and I barely do agar work anyway, so whatever. Here's a batch of plates one transfer from the clone tissue plates (which had next to zero visible contams anwyway). Need to write up that damn cloning tek.

Also I'm really sorry to hear about your pup. My little girl is getting a bit older and the idea of life without her makes me sad. Going to give her a hug and walk her right now. Cheers, bro.

This is always what I do... and I usually have an iffy plate in there (or two). I totally clear out my SAB before I even get going on them just in case.

it was about a month ago and it's gotten easier, but every time I get home I expect to see his happy face. I have to hold myself back from calling to him. he's still around though, I can feel him.

Did anyone else notice that sterlite changed the dimensions of their 66qt tub? It has less surface area but more height. It sucks.

Would you open a moldy plate in your SAB and blow on it?
no, but it's completely different physics. that will spread spores all over my where I make my spawn. but in laminar flow, the workspace is constantly scrubbed

The point is you're going to be creating airflow eddies inside that plate. As soon as the laminar flow hits the edge of your plate, the flow is going to distort and become unpredictable, especially inside the plate, even shallow petris.
Even if you don't have anything else downstream, you couldn't possibly trust any samples you took from it if you know it was contaminated.

I was curious if you actually kept track of the stats (plates and jars, not just tubs) or were just venturing a guess. I keep track of how many jars go green after inoculation and was curious if you did, too. I'd expect your success rates to be higher than most given you don't G2G or use liquids and those methods provide additional vectors.
Do you mind sharing how many shoebox tubs you run at once? Or maybe how many you've run so far?
Caps?

You must NOT work with contaminated plates in your flow hood. Sivarted is totally right, the samples will have spores all over them when the eddies form in the plate. Plus it's blowing god knows what directly in your face hole. Contaminated plates should only be worked in a still air box.

And yea I did notice the change in sterlite 66qt tubs about a year back. It lost like 15% surface area and made a shelf I built just for them to be useless because I made the dimensions too tight.

My face would be exactly your avatar while it did that. Thanks for the insight.

I have read your points and agree stare but I run my hood and have very little contam rates ...but I have cleaned many dirty plates up as well with very little new contam rates from those dirty plates ...
Now I will say the time I was running into a lot of dirty jars and plates, I have an enclosed hood/sterile room and there was a small 1" gap which I didnt assume would matter (assume makes and ass out of u and me) Haha anyway that and my poly lids were rusting out ...
I solved that issue and now still have little contam rates which I just got back into it... but I can see how it would cause the spread of spores but all I do is turn the pasty bottom to the flow so the air is not running across the myc/agar/mold ect... it all comes down to sterile technique in everything we do and just the proper process ...
But in a situation where you dont have the funds or space or just are a tight wad Haha a 7 dollar tub is, in a logical stand point the best way to go especially if you can get the same results...
Now when it comes down to running bags anyone with a sab will admit it's near impossible or just a flat out pain in the ass

Nah, for G2G. Bags in general, but maneuverability specifically. Been doing LI's with okay results. I showed you part of it. But don't want to talk much about it until I have something.

Contaminated dishes in front of a hood is bad juju. You never know when you might be accidentally dealing with a human pathogen you just concentrated and grew on nutritional media to astronomical numbers.
