That would be decay, I was testing different levels of oxygen exposure, the what looks like slime is actually decayed squished rice. The whole fruit body was submerged for around 3 days, which is why there is excess water in the zip-locks.
I used the zip-locks to produce a lower level of oxygen, the other is exposed.
----
Here is a Summer oyster fruit body, grown in high O2, submerged in CaCO3 water (calcium carbonate, lime). The oxygen exposed areas decayed and turned black, the rest remained fresh.
I also stored a sample in CaCO3 water, @ 6°C, for over 6 months.

----
Here is something amusing, Cubensis growing on CaCO3 rocks, and then transferring to another media. Ideally you would want to transfer to agar, rather than over saturated plain paper.

Top right, image 3, has bruising.

My friend found this at a rebuilding center and bought it. He is offering for me to use it as a flow hood. Will it work?

It came with a few extra hepa filters.
Thanks, T

I would think it would work. I like how it is all in one unit, and it's a good price compared to buying all new parts.
There is the possibility that it isn't the right rating of HEPA and will let contams through, but I doubt it, looks like a quality unit probably used in surgical rooms or something.

Research the unit and double check the filter stats.

Yep their spores are the same as any others just less numerous on the gills and less likely to successfully release and find their way out hence harder to print

I really like this approach, I think it's very smart since kids will probably see something and don't know when to share and when not to. And some caught up on leaving stuff out with kids around; it was just petris, not exactly a drug.
I'm fortunate my kid's old enough to understand these kinda things. She knows, but doesn't have a hand in growing. She's also contemplating micro-dosing now, so i kinda hope maybe I'll turn the reigns over to her one day when it's legal.

regarding this ceiling hepa filter, these are the stats the company provides:
Features Low profile design Lightweight All-metal filter housing Prefilter 90 ft./min. average face velocity 99.99% DOP test at 0.3 microns Suited for cleanrooms of Class 100,000 to Class 10
and the label on the unit says "filter type 4-9" whatever that means.
Is there enough plenum to make the flow even?

how long does one soak straw in lime/bleach to achieve a cold pasteurization? Might as well just leave it in overnight because why not but just wondering if anybody has seen more exact figures/experimented because speed is nice.
Also currently poking around the search engine to see if people succeed at pasteurizing other substrates this way, if anyone wants to chime in on that.
edit: On the subject of disposing of lime water. I see this source and one other obscure source claiming that atmospheric carbon dioxide will neutralize lime. So, it seems maybe one could simply put a cheap airstone into their limewater to neutralize it before dumping?
Only drain I've got is the ground so

For me its just that honesty is the best policy. I am freshly clean from a 2 year relapse on oxycodone that got ugly towards the end. Im done hidding/ lying especially from the people that love me. Not to mention if you hide it it looks wrong. I am not ready to talk about my drug use with my kids including mushrooms and probably wont till they are in college but by then i will offer them mushrooms cause i think they can really help a young adult if used properly.

From what ive seen and personally experienced cold pasteurization is garbage. I tried it once with straw and i was newish so maybe that's not the best evidence, but it didn't work for me. But ive seen two farms try it. They both went out of business. Their logs yielded for shit and they got contamination issues like mad.

Yeah I follow the rabbit with boobs. He had much success with traditional pasteurizing. Plus if you drain after the 1-1.30 mark more water evaporates off.

I've done cold lime bath pasteurization a few times. Always got at least 2 flushes before seeing any mold.
You need to keep the lime water moving. I used a large cooler with a drain. Periodically draining it and pouring the lime water back over the top.
I was using pre-cut straw from tractor supply. So it might have started out cleaner than baled straw.
Blues on limed straw.

Thanks for the replies. People seem to get mixed results to be sure. There's that "I'm a believer" post where somebody apparently succeeded with moldy spawn when using limed straw.
But then some people have little luck with it. Perhaps this is based on source of straw or the movement of the water as you say. (glad you mentioned that, I've seen mention of automated lime showers but your method sounds actually practical)

I've used both with equal success. Lately I put a syringe filter in the lid.

Which way do you put the lid? And
I think it would be cool to see an lc that had all the liquid sucked out through a syringe filter. I wonder if it would fruit
