also, hard freezes cut down summertime mosquito populations. i'm a big fan of not having malaria. this is why, even tho i hate the cold more than anything else ever, i'll always live in places with cold winters.
teladi, sorry you lost your cultures, man. that sucks.

Some of the pictures of those skeeters out there make me want to puke blood.
No thank you.

I'd trade for those freezing temps. It's in the 60s in january in the cascades. A fucking mosquito bit me yesterday.
The fuck, we usually have had snow on the ground for two months now.
The ticks this year are going to be hell. Mosquitoes will carry off unattended small children.
Cyans are still fruiting though
Ain't all bad.

It gets so cold in some winters here that sometimes I have to wear a hoodie or jacket and closed shoes when leaving the house. Only a few nights dip below freezing
Mosquitos around here are annoying, but not excessive like I read about. A burning citronella lamp keeps them away.
Ambient temperatures allow me to grow tubs outside most of the year, which is nice.

It's 12 oF here right now. -3 with windchill. I've got everything an a closet with the HVAC unit for my apartment. Actually stays a bit warmer than my liking, jars are a toasty ~75-76 F, but its better for me than waiting for them to colonize at ~63 elsewhere. Also, I don't have a lot of space otherwise .

Hey ya'll. I know there's a lot of outdated information out there, so I'm asking here. I've looked through both TEKs Trusted Cultivator Methods & Mushroom + Cultivation Info LINK LIBRARY, and The Official TNF Recommended Teks and Methods for this information with nothing.
So... is a greenhouse a martha? If it is a martha, what are some good martha/greenhouse teks that are up to date? I am good to go with cubes, but I think I need to create a place for my Pans and Edibles Maybe I'm wrong?

I like grow tents if you need a bit more room than a Martha (yep - mini greenhouse with metal/plastic frame and plastic shell). I run a wick humidifier and a heat lamp (depending on what you’re growing). Inkbird makes pretty slick thermostats and humidistats to control temp and rh.

Grew these with this setup:

Currently running it cool and working on lions mane:

You're for sure one of the people I see rocking it with these.
I don't have room for a full grow tent like that, as sexy as it is. I need something smaller, so the "27.5 in. x 19 in. x 63 in. 4 Tier Greenhouse" that I'm looking at will fit this bill. . .
I guess I don't know what to do with one to make it effective? What am I looking for to build this out properly? I sometimes see people say yes fans, sometimes no to fans. It's not very clear what I'd be setting them up with.

My take on a tent setup is to provide large amounts of FAE while maintaining a relatively high rh. I haven’t run a Martha-size but would say it’s all the same. The wick humidifier I use definitely moves the air quite well as it’s basically a fan on top of a wick drawing up water so my setup doesn’t really need additional fans. Just kind of depends how you set it up...if you were pumping humidity into the tent I could see using a cpu fan inside to help circulate the air.

So, let's say I get a IHC-200 (Inkbird Humidity Controller) and a cheap wick humidifier... will I also need a temp control unit? Will the greenhouse-y part take care of that?
I plan on growing non-cubes in here, so things like reishi, lion's mane, oysters, pans, etc. I know they all have different requirements for temps/humidity/etc, but I'll also be basing what I grow on what supplemental materials I have access too as well (i.e. wood is kinda a pain for me to get as an urban mycologist).
Also, I kinda want this to look cool, as likely I'll have this out and growing in my kitchen. So I'll probably add something dumb like a light show in there too.

You might want a temp controller/heat lamp or seed heat mat if running pans as they like it hot. Pretty much all the Gourmet species like it cool. Hardwood fuel pellets (HFP) are available at most hardware stores/HD/Walmart and is what a lot of folks use for wood loving species and is what I’m using for these lions mane and shiitake; I’d recommend you look for them. I supplement with wheat bran which can be found at feed stores or health stores in the city.

I'm aware of these items, but I'm in an area where they don't sell HFP relatively frequently, and they're often very marked up. I make a couple of treks a year to more rural areas and this is an item on my list to pick up. Currently I'm swapping some hard wood shavings from wood work that a friend has left over for mushrooms. We're both pretty happy, but the output isn't that high from her woodworking.

Gotcha. You might try to find a custom hardwood furniture manufacturer in the area if possible. They’ll almost pay you to haul off the sawdust and planer shavings.

Also, reishi are pretty much set and forget in bags. No need for a tent unless you’re wanting conks. They also make a mess when they sporulate. These were harvested at day 70.

What part of the world do you live in? I get 40lb bags of pellets for $6. Maybe they could be shipped for a reasonable price?

As a woodworker, I can confirm this. So true. Craigslist can be useful for this kind of thing. Often people will advertise their scrap bins as take what you wish, but they won't bother advertising shavings or sawdust because they don't think anyone wants them. Just ask! Also woodworkers are usually pretty chill people
