Thoughts on this tub? I've noticed what appears like knotting in some areas, while others are a bit "fuzzy".

Do I need to up the FAE, and reduce the misting?

I’ll let them go for a couple more days to see what happens.  I should have tested the LI first...  Even though the plates looked good.

I’ve read that rye seed is a better medium to spawn Caerulescens, but at the same time it’s more prone to contaminants.  We’ll see.

I'm not familiar with that species but I do think you might be growing a big jar of mold. You could always loosen the lid slightly and without opening give it a smell. If there's that much mold you don't even have to fully open the jar to smell it nor would I recommend opening it.

Have to say that ever since I changed the agar recipe I use around a bit I’ve been getting much better cultures.  I tried a straight MEA but it was shit.  Maybe I didn’t use the right ratios but the recipe I found was only for 300 mL and I do 400 mL batches.  I increased the ingredients for a 400 mL bottle but transfers look horrible.  Used 7g agar ~ 7g LME.

Side by side comparison of the GSMEA I’ve been using with the MEA.  This is my Cambodian clone both transfers are from the same plate at a couple seconds apart.

GSMEA:

If jars of substrate fail to colonize, can you reuse the substrate jars or should I just start from scratch again?

Sorry, I meant reuse the substrate that is already in the jars, if they produced nothing.  They haven't colonized and its been over 3 weeks.

I prolly wouldn't, theres a reason they didn't colonize

That reason is likely from moisture problems. It's possible he can still spawn some of it. That's why i want pics

Right, I think they were either too dry or too warm.. but don't know which.  I'll start from scratch then.  @ least I got 50% of my jars to colonize.

Maybe so, but would you resterilize grain that's been sitting in a jar for 3 weeks or prep some more?

Sub or grain? Either one can likely be PC'd again as long as moisture is right... maybe???
That said, why not just throw away fails and try to apply what we learned toward the next attempt?:goodluck:

This is a week after a G2G transfer and one shake along the way.

Everything is colonising nice and evenly except for that one patch in one jar.

Maybe I just didn't shake it as well as the others?

Do I need to be concerned about it?

You mean SHE....rascit...

Bad jars either get cleaned before it gets to bad or i throw them away cause a bacterial jar thats been getting funky can make some people puke or even sick.

Mycelium thats not cubensis can look like this.  Best talk to someone with experience like Chronic.  Cubensis growers dont really understand other mycelium.  When u open just give it a good sniff.

Looks just like pans are supposed to look. Give it a sniff. Should smell like almonds/almond extract. That will be
your true indicator.
