Going to make up my first batch of LME agar. Can I still use GS instead of just water or would that be too much?
Also want to add some gentamicin sulfate to one of the bottles. Have a few transfer plates that are starting to show signs of bacteria and Iβd really like to salvage if at all possible. Making 400 mL bottles, how much should I add? Know I can search for it but thought I would ask.
Thanks!

Is gentamicin the heat sensitive one?

Funny how many different results people get with grain water. I use it full strength and diluted it works for shit for me.

Iβm sure it depends on water:grain ratio as well as several other small factors.
The one time I tried to use grain water, it was kinda thick and gelatinous. I do a lot of grains in a relatively small pot though.

Hows my cake looking? Apart from the fuzzy feet, are the colours normal? I read somewhere that the stems are usually yellowish when fresh but I'm unsure if it's bacterial. I usually make mine into tea, will they be safe to ingest still?

Are these blobs hyphal knots at the bottom? I've put this cake in an unmodified fruiting chamber with a slightly elevated flipped lid.

Strain is mexican dutch king. Thanks if anyone can help!

Your cakes were a tad too wet. Coloring varies quite a bit within cubensis. My bet is those will tear veils early.
The second cake is just trying to colonize the verm. Be patient

I just used tap water in this batch to try something new but iβve been getting some good looking plates cooking grain til itβs fully opened with 7g LME added at the beginning of the soak and 7g agar powder.
These are Caerulescens C1 - T8 plates I transferred around 3am yesterday. Pic was taken at 10:33pm

How far should you go with transfers?

They look great Usually 3-4 transfers is enough to have clean, so you're good to go I'd say. Interesting idea adding LME to the grain soak..How much water and grain?

Thanks for that, I was thinking they were getting a bit too much moisture. The stems also seemed to thin a little overnight. I've moved it into my unmodified tub with the other big cake.
When I first started I had become a bit too ambitious and wanted to go straight for a martha. Simple teks are the way to go tbh

Doing a 1:3 grain to water ratio. This batch was 1qt grain/3qt water/7g LME and I made two batches @ 400mL each. So itβs actually 50% of what you would use adding the LME to each bottle.
@tryptkaloids
These have been clean since Iβd say T3. Trying to get more uniform growth.

So I have ten shoeboxes of non PE cubes. I decided I'd case with a pasteurized jiffy mix. Even tho the surface has a slight glisten, they do not want to pin. They are pinning everywhere but the surface. They are avoiding the jiffy mix like it's the plague. WTF?
Not sure what's going on.

Pics are not of the same tub, but all look the same, few different varieties as well.

Your surface conditions are off. The gaps where the substrate has shrunk on the sides is a more humid and ideal environment.

So I read today that it takes 16 hours for someone's dehydrator to do shrooms cracker dry. Is that normal even for a new dehydrator?
I'm starting to think I'll either need a few of them or I'll have to try and stagger the dates I spawn my tubs rather then doing a ton on the same day which was my original plan. Pretty sure I'll be harvesting too quickly to dry it efficiently with dehydrators if it takes that long.
Gonna start looking at the thrift stores for used ones. I looked recently at the value village but I didn't see any. I did see an oster blender with the regular size jar lid blade piece thing, but when I went back to get it the next day it was fuckin gone!! Ended up buying one at walmart

The subs are not shrunk, the mushrooms are pushing the sides of the tote out. Even the side pinning, won't touch the casing. All the tubs, the pins are all right at the line of casing.
Haven't seen you around bin a while TBC. Hope all is well
