Also, 50litre and 60litre clear "omnibox" or "type a" tubs with clear view lid as well are on sale for $9 and $10 Perfect for monotubs and Canada can be pretty pricey on totes! (these are 50% off, regular is like $17 bucks or something ridiculous)
I'm going to stock up when it opens
I’m going there today too, looking for a new SAB. Most of my stuff comes from there, awesome store. We should start a Canadian thread for supplies. So hard to get certain things here. I do a lot on amazon but more times than not after I’ve filled out all the info it tells me it can’t ship to my address. Frustrating.

These cities in Canada have IKEA:
Calgary Edmonton Montreal Ottawa Toronto Vancouver
IKEA's clear plastic tubs that come in all shales and sizes are really easy to work with And they cost like nothing

I actually used an old lid from a pan, heated it up and melted the circles out. Also held onto the cut outs and use those to set my plates on.

I’ve got several plates of AA+ going and a couple different types of growth.
Linear:

And some that look like a hurricane:

Any difference in the two other than shape? If so is one better than the other?
Thanks,

The black is just shadow and this is just the first transfer so it will get stronger. Was just curious about the linear vs circular formation.

After recording a few grain preps, I can pretty accurately predict my final weight post-hydration. Perfect for when I'm low on jars or bags and only need a specific amount. I just prepped 17.5 lbs of oats and that 8000g was predicted to hit 13293g. It wound up at 13373g. Pretty damn accreate.
FWIW, I rinse my oats with cold water, strain quickly and dump into 5 gallon buckets. Then I boil enough water to dump into the buckets, submerging them for an hour or so, stirring occasionally. Then I dump that hot water back into pots to boil once and submerge once more, letting it hang until a few kernels are bursting. Then it's strain and fan dry on towels for 1-2 hours until everything is dry. My average increase from dry to wet is 66.42% with this method.
Curious what others are getting with their oats? I assume folks get a bigger increase with simmering or boiling, but 8000g is too much for me to bother with that.

For the cost of oats, I weigh nothing.

Check out my journal, and feel free to post. I have a bunch of data on rye, but not oats or other grain. Would like to start a collective of data on this.

Thanks! I never thought to look at IKEA. I’ll check it out in Winnipeg (which is missing from your list. It is a 4 hour drive though so makes the tubs a bit more costly lol

Sweet. I've had plans to do this for years now. Glad to see someone has gotten it in motion. I have a bunch of different ideas to collect useful metrics that I plan on getting going soon enough. I've been collecting my own for quite some time so all I need is to get others. I'll submit stuff to your journal at some point. Nice shit, Tooki.

What can be measured, can be managed. I was struggling with my grain prep. When I go by numbers, I have way better results.
Mateah is another member who is a numbers guy. We've had a lot of good discussion on these kinds of topics. Feel free to take the helm on this and use my data. I'm not good at organization or always keeping up on things. I have a very busy and hectic life. I'd love to have more time to dedicate to the actual science of the hobby, rather then the, I got a fruit body. I'll always be more then happy to log what I can get accomplished and share.

Thoughts on DFA? Need to make up some more agar tonight if possible and was thinking about using a new recipe. I don’t have any dex or malt extract. My Pan. Cyan Australia T4’s are almost at the edge of the plate😬. They’ve grown fast over the last couple days, would hate to lose all this work.
I’m open to other storage recommendations as well just in case I can’t make the agar.

Thanks,
BB
