I just take my time. Sterile work isn't a race. But even professional agar tutorials have you cool in the donor plate.

Wait, WHAT? I thought I've watched sevearl videos that cool on the receiver plate. My assumption was that the receiver plate is sterile of ALL matter, therefore I want to make sure my scalpel is less likely to get contaminated on a sterile plate vs a plate that has my transfer on it.
Maybe I need to re-watch those videos. But out of 200 plates+, I only have contamination on some germination plates, and 2 transfers.

My example is Cubensis,
Brown rot only refers to what some wood decay fungi do. Cubes are absolutely not a brown rot fungi lol.
To my understanding, brown-rot is mycelium that will apparently decay cellulose, but do not utilize phenols. White-rot fungi directly targets phenols for decay and absorption, causing it to whiten.
https://science.energy.gov/ber/highlights/2017/ber-2017-02-e/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood-decay_fungus
There is no chance the Cubensis in my sample is using the trace sucrose solely as the carbon source. The sample is oxidizing the phenols, turning them darker, but also utilizing them.
In comparison to Oyster, it's behaving as a brown rot fungi.

Is this bacterial/contaminated or just a field of aborts being reclaimed by mycelium? This has been in progress of turning white for several days now. I think I over-misted the tubs and caused the aborts but not sure.

Should I remove all of the white blobs/aborts? Cover them with a casing? Throw out the sub and start over?

I posted this up the other day and it was mentioned the plate was mainly tams. I forgot to chuck it and was looking at my plates a little while ago. Since it’s had more time to incubate it’s starting to look more like myc. What do you guys think. Still mold?

That still looks weird, it doesn't look like mycelium to me but I'm not an expert.

It's hard to say with certainty what's going on in that plate. It doesnt look like traditional cube myc growth but it does have some of the traits near the center and around the leading edge.
Its definitely too sketchy for grain at this point but see what happens after a transfer or try whipping up a batch of plates using a different agar recipe and see how it responds on that.

Try and get another tissue sample. Personally I'd rather not try and clean that up.

I never fruit my monotubs at spawning...I know a lot of people here do it...but in my experience the 4 or 5 days colonizing before casing and introducing to fruiting conditions drastically increases bioefficiency
