What's on the bottom of your tub?
Can someone change the title idr what thread I'm in.

I don’t think light is the issue. Came home from work today and the tub has erupted with pins.:-) Maybe underwatering at some point causing the sub to pull away from the sides and leaving room for pins? Idk.
Here a pic from a few minutes ago. Can see a lot more pins just under the surface. Very skinny species or maybe just a bad phenotype.

Another question. On my other tub it looks like some of the caps are collapsing in. Too much water, not enough air??

Thanks in advance!

If you get spores out of culture that is weak does that mean it can go back to being strong? Or do you always need to go back to strong master culture?

Is that true of a monoculture?
I need to check the genetics of mushrooms but if you have a single set of genetics, and they produce spores, how is variance introduced into the spores? They have no different genetics to cross over with.
anyone?

Yes.
A monoculture is dikaryotic. i.e. each normal cell has two sets nuclei. When a spore is formed, genetic material is exchanged between these.
If you could bring together two genetically identical spores, then you will end up with a monoculture that produces clones of itself, with some changes due to random mutations.
Quote:
Meiosis, often called "reduction division", yields four daughter nuclei with the number of chromosomes reduced to half the original number. The overall result is that one diploid nucleus becomes four haploid nuclei. Although each daughter nucleus contains a full set of chromosomes, events during meiosis ensure that each of these nuclei contains genetic material derived from both parents and that each daughter nucleus is genetically different from the others.
http://website.nbm-mnb.ca/mycologywebpages/NaturalHistoryOfFungi/ReproductionDiscussion.html
Some types of fungi can reproduce asexually. In these, the parent produces spores genetically identical to itself, throws them into the wind, and when they land the germinate into a clone of the parent.

Is there a way to determine if your mushrooms are a monoculture? How do they act compared to the ones that aren't mono? Is there a good book on this topic, I'm starting to feel like I'm annoying everyone with my weird questions.

Has anyone here picked up a delivery from an AzureStandard drop location before? I just placed an order for 50lbs of rye grain and I'm wondering how it works. Seems like a truck drops off and I need to be there at a certain time.

I was hoping a TC would weigh in there.
I believe an experienced eye would be able to tell a mono apart from a MS culture. Monos should show more consistent and uniform growth.
Scientifically, you should be able to devise a test. Take samples, extract DNA, cut it up - with cuts made at very specific sequences - amplify the fragments, and separate them through gel electrophoresis. You'll end up with a barcode type pattern that you see on movies.

Depending on how well you selected your targets, those barcodes may be good enough to distinguish between individuals.

This is the first tub I’ve done larger than a shoebox. It’s 3 jars GS in a 36 qt tub. Transferred my GS to CV sub about a week ago. Does this look right?
