I'm totally mindfucked by this post. Sorry. I'm trying.
You say you wouldn't go lower than 1:4, then immediately say you usually do less than 1:4. What does this mean

he means he wouldn't use less spawn than 1/5 the substrate (1pt. spawn : 4 parts sub)
Commercial growers often go as low as 1:10 for agaricus spp., but for us, 1:4 is really the lowest appreciable spawn ratio you'll want to use. I prefer around 1:1.5 or so.

.... No I do more than 1:4. I said what I meant.
We ARE talking about the SPAWN to SUBSTRATE ratio, right? So more spawn, less substrate. Meaning, 1:1 to 1:3. 1:7 and 1:8 are very low SPAWN TO SUBSTRATE ratios, because there is very little spawn.

a 1:2 ratio is HIGHER than 1:4
1/2 = 0,5 which is more than 1/4 = 0,25

Use anywhere from 25% to 50% spawn, if that helps.

I understand where we are missing each other.
I thought you were saying my 1:2, 1:3 was really low spawn ratios.
You were saying that when I saw 1:7, 1:8, THAT was the really low spawn ratios
Sorry for the miscommunication, I understand now.
So, 1 quart of spawn to 1, maybe two or three, parts mixed together coir/Verm or whatever. Yes?
Edit: which is what I have been doing.

Go for it. You can grab some colonized grains and just case them, they will still fruit. Using substrate will be beneficial of course, due to it's water holding capacity but my point is, there are no rules in terms of spawn to sub ratio.

i have a very tiny monotub made, 7.2 quarts, with a very contaminated failure in it. I need to take it outside, but I live kind of near a lot of people, so going outside to dump a funny looking tub thing would be odd. I have it in a bag. I probably should just buy a new tub but I made that one good. I feel like it'd work very well with 1 quart jar of grains and I have maybe a quarter or third brick of coir.
I just have one jar that's ready to go, my first grain jar, and am excited to fruit it. I've done BRF to bulk in the tiny tub, low sub ratios, and got less than great results. Will be able to plainly see that the WBS is better, I think.

you overthink a lot of stuff. just dump the mess in your trash can, take the bag wherever you take it, and wash the tub.

Use a liner, use the liner to lift the substrate out of the tub gently, and place it in a bag, throw it away, The liner keeping it all in one piece helps mitigate disrupted/flying contams.

I put it in the compost
Dumping in a dumpster that isn't yours to use can cause unnecessary problems if you're seen... sounds like more risk than is necessary.

is anyone else getting fed up with these people who base a whole thread around the images they post, then delete the damned pictures?
soooooooooo many threads that would be quite helpful to people reading have been rendered nearly useless by people deleting their images. and what is left is several pages of people talking about and quoting nonexistant images, referring to things we cant see. some assholes even delete their posts!! but even more common is the expired or deleted image
cut that shit out people, it is disrespectful to all the nice people who take the time to help you and anyone reading the thread out, and often it completely invalidates the value of much of the discussion for anyone but the OP, thats some lame shit
just venting

still is kinda for this day and age.
Serotonin, you'll see one day. I realized one of my threads got like that. But if you're not a supporter, there's a cap to your total data used. So I had to delete pics to even upload new ones.
It is what it is.
I should specify, I was a supporter for a good while, just haven't been able to pay for that lately. So when I lost that status, I had to delete a bunch of stuff to upload anything
