I put them in a jar with desiccant packs directly after dehydrating, but apparently I didn't have them dry enough.
It shouldn't be a problem to toss them back in the dehydrator. Consider tossing your desiccant packs into your dehydrator for the last 30 min too. Maybe vacuum sealing your jars would help?
Good luck!

MegaMushCloud said: I inoculated three bags six days ago. Only one is showing any signs of life so far. I'm in the process of building a flow hood so I can attempt some agar work, and just sterile processes period, from reading it seems the way to go. Very excited to start this journey. Its something I've always wanted to do. I've been growing in other industries for years. Anyhow here's what I got going on......I'm trying a liquid culture jar too. Seems to be increasing in mass, three days since inoculation.
Hello MegaMushCloud, I really like and can relate to your enthusiasm for this hobby. If this is your first time growing, may I suggest using good ole PF TEK with rice flour, vermiculite and water. Especially if you are starting from spore, PF TEK can be forgiving and actually really effective!
Now, that being said, if you are using spores to inoculate your bags, spores can take days if not longer to show signs of growth. Hopefully you flamed the needle, wiped the injection site and did what you could for a sterile process. A flow hood is a luxurious piece of machinery that id highly recommend. I made a "custom" hood from an old home air cleaner. You can still do pretty sterile work with a SAB or even in a clean room if you are using needles.
Once you have a SAB or flow hood, I highly recommend learning agar. Agar is something i enjoy...most of the time. For me it is a bit of a Zen moment. The skill will allow you access to a wider variety of genetics and more confidence in your results. I will add that Faht does do some outrageous stuff in oven bags without the use of agar!
I wish you luck on your LC. On rare occasions I'll squirt sterile water onto my agar, scrape the mycelium with the needle and suck the solution back into the syringe. Mostly I do agar>grain then G2G or bulk.
Good luck!

A.k.a said: Does anybody use a flowhood while there’s a fan or ac running in the room?? That’s gotta be ok right??
It’s getting too hot to work now, I’ve got mine in a bedroom with a window ac unit and the hood is across the room with the back facing the ac unit.
I have a "custom" hepa fan hood so this might not be relevant. I use mine with the back facing the AC vent and it doesn't seem to cause problems. I also run mine in the dinig/living room so it is probably a larger space than your bedroom, maybe a difference? Try it with a clean jar and let it sit for a week if needed.
I used to turn my AC off. After a couple hours of that in summer, I had lots of angry people.

Wild Aussie, I do no prep on oats from Tractor Supply with no issues, 10ml water per Tbsp oats. I PC 90 min for sizes up to a myco qt and 120 for larger bags. Maybe slightly less water for a larger bag. The grains should just barely float. It works for barley also.
Your grain water in the fridge is fine short term put it in the freezer for longer.
I leave my grain jars, bags etc in the PC unopened until I'm ready to use them. The exception is 1/4 pint no pour agar which once cooled gets put on a shelf until needed.
Good luck!
Edit: most likely your grain water needs to be diluted before making LC or agar with it. A complete guess, maybe try a teaspoon of grain water in a pint of water for LC??? Maybe even a quart of water?

Wild Aussie, I think we'd stuff .5g+ in a 00 capsule "back in the day". Sometimes the gel caps would barley fit back together and took extra squishing. The fat end of a chopstick makes a great tamper BTW. These were definitely not accurately dosed, consistent or professional in any sense of the word.
They do have some nice looking fillers for pretty cheap online if you need to fill bulk.

I wipe my foil w/Iso in front of a HEPA. I only know a couple people that I feel confident going print/swab to grain (Faht, DonS). Usualy, I'll take at least a transfer or two on agar before grain.

I meant as in folding the print itself in half, it is just a PITA to deal with. Maybe I'm alone on this soapbox.
I tend to cut prints into squares and fold a slightly larger piece over them or if they are small, make a foil pouch to place them in.

Do you wipe your tools with ISO too?
Yes, on the tools too, though they get torched. I must be very lucky? I keep my heavy weight foil roll on a shelf, in the kitchen where there is often fine oil/fat particulates in the air. I pull off a piece, cut it down to fit in the plastic container (from the drawer). In front of my "hood" with HEPA filter, I spray the inside/out with ISO, wipe down an let dry, same w/foil. W/shoebox in flow I use flamed scissors to decapitate and move caps to foil for printing. I leave a mm or so of the stipe so the cap is not flush against the foil. I wet a paper towel with bottled water and place it damp over the caps. 48hrs later, in front of "hood", remove lid, paper towel, caps and let prints dry in the HEPA flow while I finish everything else, usually 30-60 min. Then cut and wipe w/ISO whatever foil shape I need for storage and let dry in the flow. Put them together and label. I can send you some prints to test if you'd like? I always recommend agar but the method seems to work for me.
This is a good opportunity to say I DO NOT recommend anyone do what I do. That is, unless it is something I've learned from someone who knows what they are doing. (Thanks Faht!) I sterilize my subs and casing, don't fan, don't mist and probably lots of other things too. I've found what works for me in my environment with my time schedule.
I am here to learn though and I do appreciate all of the experiences and opinions, you guys have! If not I'd still be growing GT using PFtek. What would be a better way?

Ha ha ha Mushboy, I forgot about printing on card stock but w/no tape! I still have one of my GT prints on card with blue tape around the edges, an antique!
.....back in my day, we didn't have no fancy SABs and we liked it! It reminds me of the time.....
I'll have to find the old Shroomery page I printed when I learned to use popcorn.

i wonder if cooking it at 350*f in an oven will sterilize it? for about an hour? mold dies quickly at 100*f+.
I put my casing (w/COIR) in a covered pie tin in the oven at 225F for 60 min. You could probably put your entire block of COIR in the oven for an hour or two if you wanted. I used to use higher temps but it discolored the COIR, it made no noticeable difference beyond that.

Holy smokes, I did 3lbs and thought it was huge, 8lbs will be like a small child! If it helps, 3lbs at 2hrs, 15psi was fine. I'd bet 4hrs would work for you.
Good luck!

I was recently PCing whole tomatoes with lemon juice and salt. A Qt jar cracked and released it's contents, the PC came out sparkling! Heat, acidity and salt works wonders!

Smellyhobbit, I've had better luck putting all the grains at the bottom of a jar when doing AIO. Maybe give it a try with one next round? I'll have to read Bod's TEK but for me millet is 2:1 by volume. If you put 2Tbsp millet and 1Tbsp water in the bottom then your COIR. I think COIR is about 80g:1C water.
Good luck!
I forgot, add a pinch of gypsum for the millet so you don't have to shake so hard.
