Hi to all of you!. I have been having this question and havent found any good answer on the forum.
Do you guys close the lids tight before PC? And why? It seems that by letting steam get into the jars more easily the sterilizarion process would be much more easy and efficient. All of this due to the fact that with the vapor inside the jars it would not matter the volume of the jar because with the steam inside the slightly untightened jars the only volume that would matter would be the size of the grain.
I would like to know your experienced opinions.
Also. I have a galindoi shoebox showing lots of condesation on the sides, still no pooling of water, think my coir was very slightly over field capacity. What should i do?
Thank you!

Well, Hi again to everybody so i am going through my first ever grow, and have a shoebox with galindoi. From my little undestanding everything seems to be going just fine, i spawned to bulk and cased on 8 days ago and have now lots of mycelium poking through the casing...
My question is, when should i start introducing more FEA, now? or should i wait to see some pin formation?
Also, does this look like its going well for you? im thinking of using a bag with two smal holes poked when fruiting, would that be okay?

Thank you very much for your help, appreciate it a lot. And i am very excited i got this far!

Thank you for asnwering! maybe i got some things wrong, i am a bit confused about the relationship between pinning, FAE and casing colonization. I will leave it doing its thing until i see some pins
In regards to the bag, eventually i will have to put one due to not having enough headspace for anything to grow really, i only have about 4 cm before reaching the lid. Maybe you got me wrong, i meant a transparent plastic bag that would give more space for mushrooms to grow, nothing weird.
Again, thank you!

I get your sentiment there but can't agree entirely. Maintaining proper conditions can and must be done to ensure optimum results.
I'd say your coir is looking dry and she would like a nice misting. I'd mist her and then snap the lid back on. I'm not sure how much water you used but..... OH shit, just realized we are talking about galindoi. I digress. I don't know much about this type.
here is stonesun's grow log and here is every post a trusted cultivator has ever made about galindoi
I think you should mist it and throw the lid back on but i don't know galandoi too well
You are right verum i gave it a light mist as it was somewhat dry on top and snapped the lid back on. I checked many TC posts but they dont seem very explanatory or beginner friendly, so that leaves me a bit confused.

J. Jack Flash said: 'galindoi' you want it to be at or near 100%, then case it and increase it's air supply. if you're not in a tent, you can still do ok, just remember to keep the casing wet. if it dries out, the fruit will shrivel up like tiny little middle fingers. ideally, it should alternate between wet and less wet, but never dry.
forgive me for sounding like a pedant, but what you have there is not an effective casing because so much myc is poking thru it. the point to casing is to provide good conditions to the fruiting surface, which it can't do if it's beneath that surface. i suspect it also provides a ready supply of water for the fruit to take up. i suppose others have succeeded with a coir top layer. let's see if they chime in.
Yeah i didnt expect to have mycelium poking through so quickly to be honest. I cased right at spawn because i didnt want to risk contamination due to the jar colonizing rather slow (no contams showed up on agar). I know its not how its generally done but felt it was adequate... What now then?

DO NOT i repeat DO NOT use dark malt extract. Its the worst shit in the world. I used to make agar form it and it only grew very weak transparent like mycelium.
I havent had a succesfull grow in my whole life (waiting some fruits within next week though) but from what i read on your agar recipe i believe you are using too much nutrients.
There are a a large amount of old threads of bodhisatta having arguments with another user Violet, about the amount of nutrients used in agar and how too much nutrition would appear to lead to tometose growth. That is why in the cases that people want to isolate mycelium from contamination they use low nutrient agar. Because it leads to a more rhizo growth. Your agar recipe has 4% nutrients, and almost every Trusted cultivator appear to recomend 2% from what i read. Thats my inexperienced advice based on everything i learned around here.

Well i have a question... A very noob question but, what the hell, i didnt find almost anything about it.
How does mycelium look to you when its germinating on agar?
I streaked some plates last week and didnt see any growth until two days ago. When only while looking from the sides on a very well lighted room i could simply see very transparent mycelium like structures growing, now they are beginning to show some hairy growth on the top.
Does this happen to you? Or does mycelium always puf up from the very first signs of growth and then grow out?
Hope i am explaining myself well... Cant take a picture because its kind of transparent you know... I know time will tell, but i am just curious!

I believe im on the right path then. Im using rice agar, so that may affect the way it can be seen. Still i find it weird how growth is developing... Not how i remembered from my last experiences, but still i have now doubt is mycelium
Thank you for the examples!! Your plates look incredibly transparent also, thats incredible, you poured your agar really thin right?

Thanks verum! will be reading up a bit on those topics for sure! This mycology shit is really interesting for sure.
jbgtaa i believe you may be right, i bought a very clear print that happened to be on sale, so probably contamiantion may be playing its role. Once it shows a more pronounced and healthy grow i will transfer until it looks nice. Thanks for the advice aswell!

Hi again, wanted to check if anybody has some input on this plate... I would bet my ass its mushroom mycelium, at least some of it. But i dont know why it looks transparent. I used BRF agar at 2%, maybe there is some nutrient variance within al my poured plates? i have some galindoi plates that look really healthy and vigorous, so....

wow.... Thats quite a difference... Thank you very much for answering.
I will make a transfer and hope for the best (also ioculate another dish just in case)! I have the feeling that it is clearly mycelium and not a contam. But my lack of experience makes me doubt.
What would your opinion be on the left pic i uploaded? looks like mycelium to you?
Thank you very much!

I eat millet, i like millet. Millet is good! it takes less than a minute on a pressure cooker! and you can eat it just like rice!
Coming back to talking mushrooms... What do you think about my first galindoi pins? Dont they look pretty? Would you advice anything?
Hope they open up nicely

Would love to get a wall to wall flush in a monotub some day

Ha! Nah it would not be like i acomplished anything astonishing, i think anyone could get a small pin.
I wouldnt be able to tell for sure... I ordered 3 syringes about 1.5 years ago, if they were mislabeled between the ones in my order they could be either cambodian or Golden Teacher. I dont know if those strains have different looks.
But for me is great news given that is my first grow and i only cared about the fruits! Also it means that with cubes i have much less chances of fucking everything up

I wouldnt worry, they are easily identifiable in the case of being something inedible
No, i got them from a reputable vendor in reddit.
Now i know why the heck my jars never ever in the course of 6 months grew any sclerotia

I think i have been misting my shoebox quite a lot... (three times a day) because i read there should be beads of moisture... But i believe i misted too much and it slowed growth a bit.
Any advice? Maybe fan? Take of the lid for a few hours? I have a shoebox 1:1.5 coir and a casing of coir aswell. Im the owner of the galindoi fruits that look like cubes
