I'm a seasonal grower, don't like to run the dehydrator and the AC. So I can relate. Just did my 3rd round of agar work this season and seem worse each time. Way out of practice.

I've done it this way twice, International and domestic. Make your own trail mix, pick them out on arrival.

You can usually take about 10 steps into a wooded area and find plenty of oysters to clone.

True. Helps to live in a temperate deciduous forest.

It is cool, and quiet. But I can't help but feel like a spore sponge every time I come in from outside.

These were all from clean uniform plates, then out of nowhere this. I’m not sure if it’s contaminated agar, which I’ve never had, or because I made it really soft for the grain jar.

Those appear to have a mold.

It's likely from the coir, not from grain

gizmo1 said: Eeek. I know the feeling man. I have sewer flies. Yup thats right not fruit flies sewer flies. I keep them under control by pouring boiling water in all the drains monthly and bleach regularly. I also have sticky traps all over the damn house. About 2 per room. 1 per closet and 2 per bathroom. I cant fucking wait to get out of this place. They get fucking bad in the summer. I didnt even think about it but wont be any hydrated coir sitting around in the open this summer thats for damn sure. Damn pests.
If you have flies coming in through the pipes, each drain needs a p-trap, it's cheap and simple to install.

dmppb said: hello my dear people , i need your help ;
so , i've been having trouble with my prestos and my all american 921 to get them to finish the cycles , i go for the 10 min vent 2 hours at 16-17 psi ( weights added ) and they run out of water at 1:40 - 1:50 hours , even with 4 quarts jars of water i have a some questions and some theories about what could it be , i appreciate your help very much
-seal ring ( although brand new ) they're not "presto brand" and could be shitty quality and leak in the cycle , but then what about the AA921?
-water getting into the jars , i don't use foil ( i will try tomorrow ) i use SFD , and i could see some water droplets and my grain wetter than expected , maybe the grain is absorbing a bunch of water during the cycle ?
- my big ass burners too hot and evaporating too much water ?, which leads me to the questions :
- how many psi's do you have at the end of the 10 minute cycle ?
- do you vent at high flame ?
- presto users , do you see any droplets leaking regularly or not ?
thanks a bunch
I use a 921 with 4 quarters taped to the weight. Vent for 10min, PC wbs for 2hrs, all with a quart of water. After the cycle, I can't tell I've lost any water.
Since this is happening to 2 different PCs, it must be the common denominator. Sounds like your heat is too high. You should turn it down to the lowest necessary to maintain, once you achieve the right psi or vent steam.
@Firstttimer - if you don't have a friend that can babysit, I'd pick them all and put it in the fridge.

@ LadysKnight you tape them to the sides of the metal circle ? 4 quarters is 22 grams , i don't think i'm putting enough extra weight , i will adjust ; that sound like the cycle i wanna do , damn it
@MrBovineJoni , ok yeah that't not what's happening over here , i get psi's almost immediately when i start venting , and the weight is just going crazy letting steam out once it's at 16 kinda like that second video , maybe more , and when i turn the heat down the pressure goes down , i'm thinking i should get my burner closer to the PC so i can set it to very low fire and still maintain pressure , or just fucking change them , loved the fact that they were so fast to work with , but maybe too fast !
ok so now i'm aiming for the weight to not move so violently while holding the 16 psi's , this has helped,
thanks again my dudes
Yes, I do. Might rattle for a couple seconds every few minutes at 17psi

Yep, gas stove on 3 (of 10) setting holds the psi for me.

The water comes up -3/4 mark on my jars. How about yours?
I'm sure I do this wrong, but I use stainless steel jar rings and then trevet. I use 1 quart of water, which barely touches the bottom of my jars/plates.

only 1 quart of water for the entire cycle ? damn , no water escaping at all
Yep, have done it this way for years without a noticeable loss. Here again, I'm sure this is likely foolish, but works for me.

I suppose mine will come to vent temps faster. Yours will reach target psi faster. Probably a wash?

The only thing I know about MG seeds is a friend's kid had some and went from super-bright to not being able to use sentences for about 2 months. Careful guys.
