Anyone have suggestions for buying bulk rye or wheat in Ontario, Canada?
I know some farm feed stores will carry it but I've yet to find one. I have had success with finding wheat kernel at bulk barn but it is quite expensive.

To each their own, for me it was the opposite. The reduction in dry time doesn't justify the increased cost for me....but that's just me. I plan on making a wood framed screen drying rack with a box fan underneath, (seen it somewhere on the forum) this should significantly reduce drying time. (Which isn't really a problem to begin with, I just like projects)
Hey for what it's worth, I found whole wheat at TSC too. And it's $12 for 25kg

Has anyone seen HEPA filters that are only 7/8" thick? I need to clarify with the guy but I'm starting to wonder if he means it's available in 7 or 8 inches.
The resistance is 1 W.G.
Got quoted at $325 for a 99.99% efficient 18" * 24" (by whatever thickness, 7/8 inch or 7-8 inches, or 7 or 8 inches lol...)

Nevermind! Fuck it I found an astrocel 99.99 efficient on ebay. It was a decent chunk of change but brand new and no more than I would have paid from a filter supplier. Found a matching inline fan for $110 CAD
Should be here in 2-3 days and then I can get started building this thing

I just looked at the fan chart and made sure that the sum resistance (filter resistance + pre-filter resistance) line up with the right CFM for the size of my filter. The inline I got is actually slightly overpowered so I bought a speed adjustment dial.
I guess if it doesn't work I can return it and opt for something bigger but I don't see any reason why it won't

I keep track of everything. The wet:dry ratio for variety/tub is to have reliable metrics to plug into my yield estimates. When I enter a tub into my spreadsheet, I get estimated date/yield on flushes, and quarts of spawn, tub size, and clone used all factor into it. It's pretty useful.
Would it be possible for you to share the spread sheet? Even delete all your info first or something if you wanted to? And just share the file with all the calculations and rows and what not ready? I'm inept at excel but that looks awesome.

fellow canadians, I don't know if the sale is the same canada wide, but in Canadian Tire's Ontario stores (And possibly all stores) the 6 litre shoeboxes are on sale for $1.50. These are normally like $3-$5 here so good time to stock up. Sale ends tomorrow or next day though.
Also, 50litre and 60litre clear "omnibox" or "type a" tubs with clear view lid as well are on sale for $9 and $10 Perfect for monotubs and Canada can be pretty pricey on totes! (these are 50% off, regular is like $17 bucks or something ridiculous)
I'm going to stock up when it opens

I want to make a big batch of LC now that I have clean agar plates to take wedges or biopsies from.
I tried grain water already but my order of dry malt extract just showed up and I wanna give it a go. It should be fine just with that and water right? I don't actually need dextrose?
What ratio? couple grams to a litre? or? And lastly, do you guys filter the LME broth so it doesn't have sediment in there or you just leave it ?
Thnks for your help.

I'm Not doing agar. Just LC. I imagine the same amount of LME is probably fine though
I'll just experiment, lol and whip up 4 or 5 see which one does best. Gonna try 8 grams to 500mL see how it looks. If it ends up too dark I'll dilute. Sediment, half I'll filter half I won't and see which ones do better.

Mazapatec, golden teacher, penis envy, peu, ape, burma, treasure coast, albino a+, rusty whyte, cbk's ape, pes Hawaiian

So I read today that it takes 16 hours for someone's dehydrator to do shrooms cracker dry. Is that normal even for a new dehydrator?
I'm starting to think I'll either need a few of them or I'll have to try and stagger the dates I spawn my tubs rather then doing a ton on the same day which was my original plan. Pretty sure I'll be harvesting too quickly to dry it efficiently with dehydrators if it takes that long.
Gonna start looking at the thrift stores for used ones. I looked recently at the value village but I didn't see any. I did see an oster blender with the regular size jar lid blade piece thing, but when I went back to get it the next day it was fuckin gone!! Ended up buying one at walmart

I have a pint of blue oyster grain that is colonized. I am thinking about trying my hand at these mycobags I have. I was going to do a wood pellet + wheat brain mixture of some sort in the bags, PC, then do grain 2 bag transfers. Then will just try to fruit the oyster in the bag by slicing it??
Never done it before, does this seem good to you guys?
edit:
Has anyone tried sealing growbags using a hair straightener? My vacuum sealer doesn't get hot enough to seal it properly. Considering using tie wire if not I guess

That might work actually I have done that before. Going to try it out.
You have any links on how you do your bags at all? Or any tips for me?
If I fold the tops, PC them, let it depressure and cool down, then put them infront of hood to inoculate is that good enough? I saw some links where people were using some kind of tyvek filter thing so that any air that gets pulled into the bag is clean, but other people seemed to just fold the tops down until innoculating.
I wanna do straight grain bags for cubes, and then some wood pellet/wheat bran ones for oysters

I'm a twist and puller myself.
Ugh I used some 100% silicone without reading it and realize now there is no temperature limit on it. Still says "Silicone II" on the bottle like the other kind I used that worked fine though, but the few lids I used this on came out of the PC kind of gummy, one filter fell off.
Oh well. Least it was in front of the flow hood then I Covered it up with micropore tape I'll find out whether this flow hood works or not in the next few days lol. Long as the filter is legit everything should be dandy

I'm starting to think I should have done only a few quarts in front of my flowhood and waited to see what happens. I just did 30 quarts
as long as the filter is actually legit tested at 99.99% at 1000cfm then it's all good, but I did get it off ebay from a non-official seller so who knows. Seemed brand new.. I just can't imagine losing 30 quarts knowing I could have used my SAB until I could know for sure

My PC fits 7 quarts. I just run it over and over and then do all the jars inoculation at once. It's easy to do 3-4 cycles a day while I'm just lazing around the house.
I have bought 72/144 quart jars I'm planning to. Over the next week I will buy the rest, and then be PCing another 112 or so.
I'm going crazy for the winter This is what happens when you take a 10 year break from mycology
I got a 25kg bag of oats and then found out wheat is half the price. Wish I knew that before hand I think I like wheat better. Been getting small clumpage with oats.
