There was one time along time ago that my wife got mad at all of the mushroom shit around the house, so I picked up a tub and chucked it like a football onto my back porch, tub cracked and the sub broke into tons of pieces, it was pinning it's first flush when I did that, it never turned blue, sure enough just sitting there cracked open on my back porch gave out one of the biggest meatiest flushes I have ever had.

In light of this thread, I have been seeing some people talking about casing and fruiting at spawning, what are the pros and cons?
I have been wondering about this but it felt silly to start a whole thread about it.

Faster pinning time, less chance of mold.

So does the faster pinning in exchange give less BE? And as far as less chance of mold, are you saying less chance of mold before first flush or just in general?
And to keep this in the spirit of discussion, is this something you like to do inocuole?

Prints and syringes are already labeled with an ID:shrug:
What are they searching for exactly?

I shake the shit out of my jars right away and then 3-4 days later and they are usually done in 10 days from inoculation, also I find moisture content to play a huge role in wedge jars, when I'm on the dry side is when I find it taking longer than normal.
These were about 7-8 days after inoculation, and the bags in the back were LI started the same day as the jars

Here's a couple of the jars today:

I didn't shake, just dropped it right on top.  The cultures just fuzzed up pretty good for a day or sobbefore they started spreading.  Also, I haven't really had much rhizo growth on the plates but when the myc hit the grains they started getting rhizo.  (Agar is 4th transfer from ms).

inoculated on the 30th

Shake the shit out of those.

I just started doing the blending agar and I love it, I prefer using bags and it really has taken jars out of the picture for the most part.

Hey guys, yesterday I prepped 7 tubs worth of coir sub at once and it went flawlessly. I'm sure you guys have similar methods for doing this but I thought I would share.
I did it in a large tote, I took a 5kg brick of coir and broke it up into small chunks, added 4 gallons of verm and 7 cups of gypsum, I boiled 7 1/2 gallons of water(I used my 941 for that), and dumped it in to the tote with a little help and did a quick mix with a clean shovel used only for substrate and closed it up.
I kept my temp probe in there just to see and it actually sat at about 195 for an hour before it started dropping, I checked different spots and it was all even.
When it cooled I had all of my tubs lined and ready and spawn bags broke up, I used a well cleaned gallon pitcher and used 3 gallons per tub and also 8 lb.'s of spawn each and then cased and polyfilled which I had my wife doing as I moved on to the next tub(these are fruiting at spawning).
This amount of coir sub made 7 cased tubs, and I found it a super simple process, anyways thought I would share.

I have thought about this, I have a drum steamer I use for sawdust but the problem I see for pasteurizing in that is bringing all of the bags to core temp at the same time and figuring out when to to turn off the steamer to hold that temp for the desired amount of time. In the end though, figuring that out would save a shit ton of time(pun) pasteurizing large quantities of shit.

Inoc, I do use roughly a cup of gypsum per tub, I have no idea where that figure came from, probably an archaic tek years ago, but that's what I have always used, what is your preferred amount of gypsum per tub?

True, but the atmospheric steamer is really cheap to build and it would just take a few runs of experimenting to dial it in for pasteurizing.
I built mine off of gr0wer from here, actually his youtube video.

I'm alright, just working my ass off. Been reading TMC and GGMM in the little free time I have so I haven't been around here much. Good to see your grows going strong on POTD btw. Grats.

Shroomery blasphemy Haze. JK, I keep GGMM in my bathroom, I swear to god every time I take a shit I learn something new.
In all seriousness, what are you reading up on right now? I was just reading the section on Agiricus Blazei and he very briefly mentions Japanese cultivators having success with them on 20% supplemented sawdust bags, but absolutely no other further info on that. Interesting though is he did mention the pigment and colorization of the fruit bodies being completely different on sawdust than compost and said he felt substrate could play a huge role in pigment and possibly taxonomy of species has been skewed by this. Anyways, that was my morning GGMM reading, I was thinking about trying blazei on coir so I was reading up on it, apparently it wont fruit though unless the casing is untreated and has bacteria present, I'm wondering if coir casing untreated would do the trick?
