Hey guys. Going to do some hunting this weekend, as its calling for rain through out this week. Im going to be in the woods, in the upper part of northwest GA, in a mountainous area. Ive done alot of looking throughout thia site, but nobody talks about this part of GA, so my question is what actives should i be on the lookout for?

You might be able to find some Gymnopilus in the woods, but your best bet this time of year is to look for Psilocybe caerulescens in the counties surrounding Atlanta.
Below is a distribution map, showing which counties caerulescens has been observed in. If you want more info on careulescens, you might also search Psilocybe weilii, which is a deprecated name, but still lots of info on the web using that name.

Also, here's a list of Active fungi you can find in GA, do some research and find out what to look for, and when. But during this time of year Gymnopilus, Pluteus, and Psilocybe caerulescens (weilii) can all be found rather easily, also if you have access to horse pastures, you might find some Panaeolus cinctulus after a good rain.
________Georgia:________
Gymnopilus junonius* Gymnopilus luteofolius** Gymnopilus luteus** Panaeolus cinctulus* Panaeolus cyanescens** Panaeolus olivaceus** Pluteus salicinus*** Pluteus cyanopus*** Psilocybe atlantis*** Psilocybe caerulescens** Psilocybe caerulipes*** Psilocybe cubensis* Psilocybe galindoi (atlantis and galindoi may be conspecific with mexicana)***

Thank you, sir/mam. Ive been trawling this site for awhile. I know the weilii grow around here, and ive been hunting them for a few weeks now, but no luck. I live above bartow, so i have no idea if theyre even here. I dont really know much of the land around atlanta, so even if i drive that way, i have no clue where id go to look. I have access to pastures for horses and cows, but no cubes there either. Most of my time hunting is spent deep in the woods where the ground is covered in pine needles. I wondering if i should give up on finding my willy:(. Maybe i just need more rain. Who knows.

look at google earth to search for sites that were cleared/disturbed in the last several years. you can often change the date of the satellite view so you can find areas that were disturbed in recent years and are now overgrown. perhaps those areas will be good targets for the 'landslide mushroom'.

that tip has been passed around for years for many different purposes and seemed like a good idea for this one, too.
