Ego. Simple discussion
    #23526628 - 08/09/16 11:39 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Do you ever feel that ego could actually be a good thing?
How many of you actually feel that there is no need, or a need to dissolve ones ego?
With taking psychedelics, your ego does shrink during the experience, but why do you feel the need for the ego to remain suppressed?
Dont you think maybe an ego is a good thing? Self identification, being the alpha male? Testosterone fuels the male to be alpha. Every male animal in the wild is full of testosterone, they fight over a female in heat. They prove their point. Does that not have anything to do with an ego?
Without an ego, not thriving to be alpha, don't you think maybe that's not really necessary to suppress an ego?
I have more to say, but can hold off until I hear some ideas, thoughts, and opinions.
Anything?

As humans though we like to think of ourselves as more evolved than animals and that ego is really the most basic or primitive mindset people have. To me ego is there but ego also leads to war, corruption broken relationships. Nowhere is the ego more on display tHan America in 2016.

But what do you think would happen to the world if nobody had an ego?
Would everybody be the same? If everybody were the same the world would be awful and boring. Would being egoless lead to lack of individuality?
Would the human agenda actually change for the better?

Ego is VERY important. It's who we are. Without an ego, people are nothing. They don't value themselves or their worth. Plain and simple.

Personally i think the ego is an illusion or it's a facuet that evolution have us to let us create societies and things of that nature,  but there's a fine line between having to big of an ego  and not enouggh

Ego Is The Trait Of Animals And Maybe Fallen angels. I think of ego as pride.

humility is to be ego less. Humility is the best trait ever. When humble their is always room for improvement.

I feel like there is a good ego, and a bad ego.

The good ego is the one which tells us to cut our fingernails, brush our teeth, carry ourselves like we have value, etc.

The bad ego is the one where we try to crush others we view as competitors in this life, might be someone at work, or a relative we don't like, also bad ego is the part of us that things we're better than another person because we're better looking, in better shape, etc.

Ego is bad, it divides us and makes the self feel a sense of "the world owes me this, this is MY land, this is MY family,  this is MY stuff, I'll kill YOU for it. "

The ego is nothing more than the primal subconscious we NEEDED way before "civilized society " was even a concept and then even somewhat during the beginning.

Without ego we'd all realize we are all one and we should all love and embrace each other, the ego creates solidarity and f you think about it we do not need that "ego" any more, the ones who fortify their ego are the ones who commit the most vile acts towards others.

Without an ego you won't be empty or full, you'll simply be, it's not that you'll be a hallow lifeless shell, you'll just see past the bullshit and invest your life into something more fulfilling.

I've said this before and I'll say this again. Ego is a necessity, it's a survival trick a biological mechanism to keep the organism alive so is it good? Well it's needed..

The point of ego death and ego dissolution is not to rid yourself of your ego this is a HUGE misunderstanding, the point of ego death isn't to permanently rid yourself of the ego the point of it is to know that you have an ego. You can't know you have an ego unless you suppress it.

Some solid points, I would have to say personally I too believe having an ego is completely necessary for humans. I think you can still focus on "better things" even with an ego. People who say that a person with an ego isn't focusing or "investing their life into something better" are simply judging.. Speaking with their own ego. What is better for an individual might not be better for somebody else. There is simply nothing wrong with that.
Experiencing ego death might be good for some, but not everybody.
A lot of people I have talked to on other threads here really seem to think that once you experience ego loss/death, that you must rid of the ego altogether. Some even going as far as believing that EVERYBODY should permanently kill the ego for better hopes of mankind and humans altogether, which i would totally disagree with. A typical response I would get with that ideology, is that it's only because my ego is too large, which is not the case.
I respect other opinions and ideas and enjoy hearing them as well and have read some interesting replies so far.
