.running a small fan in the room where my SGFCs were never really fucked them up, I know consensus is swaying on fans right now...do we use them for monotubs? PF tek? Everyone's home environment is unique so everyone's needs are different....I always had excellent cakes running a fan in the room:

I will say I only did the of tek 3 times before moving to monotubs, so I don't have a great basis, but in the 100 or so cakes I did, I never regretted having a low blowing fan in the room.

Fans are useless. A small fan does what no fan does with the added power on your electrical bill! A normal fan fucks up a sgfc.
I haven't had a fan running in my grow room for a few years now, and a lot of the time my door is closed too. For tubs adjust the poly for Fae. Oftentimes I pull out the top holes poly. For sgfc, hand rake/fluff the perlite, poke out the bottom holes, elevate it higher, crack a window, etc.

Fahtster used to have some spectacular results stacking cakes and keeping them quite close to each other. It looks like his old pictures are gone, though.

Here's a little update. I spaced them out. I'm continuing to mist only when dry. Hopefully it's not too much water and not too little either.
The little guy's growing up fast here.

And little pins are forming (still "primordia"?)

How would I know when the big one is ready to harvest? Pick them as they get ready, not wait for all of them to be ready all at once, right?
Are there any other tips you have here? Is the texture & surface on the mushrooms looking alright for this stage?
This is not only my first time growing shrooms... but my first time seeing one in person and (hopefully soon) to try one myself. So I'm pretty excited!
Thanks guys! ~ Irkles

Get those cakes unstacked and you will gain 5 more pinning surfaces for mushrooms to grow out of.
The big one you can pick when it's ready, usually shortly after the veil breaks unless you want a larger cap for spore printing.
Good luck.

Let the notion that it appears all your pins are coming in from the base of the cakes and on the cased tops, where the microclimate is best....go ahead and let that be case evidence for dunking AND rolling

I did unstack them, and did my best to keep the moisture content high overall by frequent misting.
All in all I got a flush that continued on for about 3-4 days. I tried to pick groups of shrooms as soon as their veils tore. The total harvest for 10 BRF cakes in this flush was 257 g (wet). I think it's about 25-26 g dry.
So not great but being my first attempt at this I feel I learned a *lot*. Next time I may try to go BRF cakes to tray or monotub.
Also (this may be for another thread), but I did my first trip, using the very first mushroom I picked from this grow. That was yesterday - also my first shroom, and first psychedelic, experience ever.
It was 1.5 g dry, and led to a level 2 to 3 trip. Deep into it I felt I was communing with an ancient, and non-human, intelligence. It was peaceful and playful at the same time.
I'm worried because I want to go back and do it again, soon, and at a higher dose. I don't want to see myself as getting addicted to these. I just want the spiritual insights. I hope this is something others can relate to...

Did you remember to dunk the cakes and go for a second flush?

I did dunk & set them up for a second flush (no rolling this time). And a couple of small shrooms are coming up out of three cakes. The others aren't fruiting yet.
But I'm going to have to get rid of all this by the end of the week due to issues with people in my home environment.. so I won't get to see the 2nd flush through but may get to pick 20 g wet or so of shrooms before the cakes get tossed into the compost pile out back.

Good luck with that. Hope you get things sorted out so you can get back into the hobby.
