I think bacteria problems are probably the most prevalent issue for growers. It takes a while to get an eye for bacterial problems, and before you know it you have a bunch of green tubs.
Whenever theres a post "how do my jars look?" Followed by some pics of BRF jars. I always wonder how many posts itll be till someone will mention that it looks bacterial. Its a pretty safe bet to mention it. And then the noobs will freak out "oh no do you think I can save it?" "Oh yeah dont worry about it its just a little bacteria" It's like some sick joke just to strike fear into the hearts of new growers for a quick sec
That is not my intention, and I don't say it unless I see it. Also, I think most people's jars truly are bacterial, especially if they do a lot of G2G.

I have been making masters from agar and then G2G-ing one 'generation' out. I used to try to G2G-->G2G-->G2G over and over and over... I have moved away from that though. I don't like G2G with masters started with spores either, but I just did one batch of those about an hour ago, so crossing my fingers!

Yup. It's all bacterial. But I only call it out when it looks like it'll be a problem down the road, going by my own experience. I try not to scare anyone unnecessarily.
LOL at the BRF cakes, all those fucks are bacterial. It's just whether or not the mycelium was quick enough to be well enough established to fight.

This is how I intend to start doing things. I used to do it this way, but I would use jars that had been G2G'd 5 times to start my bags, and they frequently went bad. I'm really getting sick of having a million jars around though.

I don't think bacteria is nearly the same concern with BRF as it is with grains, but I could be wrong. I have never made a PF Cake before.

Your jars look bacterial
I thought the same thing, but they may not be. Give them a shake. If they don't break up, then it has bacterial problems. If they are like rubbery consolidated chunks, you've 'gone bacterial', brother. They could really use a good shake anyway.
However, send us some pics when they are fully colonized. You may still be able to get away with spawning them, but possibly not G2Ging them.
I shook them about 4-5 days ago and they started recovering quickly. Seemed to break up like normal myc to me. Pictures can be deceiving I guess lol but we will see! Should be at 100% colonization in a few days.

Be sure to have a lower moisture content in bags. Shoot for 38% or they will go bacterial

I think I thought it looked bacterial because I'm not used to looking at WBS anymore. I'm sure you're alright, if it shakes well

I prefer 41%, actually. 38% is for bacterial n00bs.

Yeah man, I hate it when it hits 39% and it's all fucked from there
how do you even measure it so precisely without a tool?

I'd be willing to bet he measures H2O levels before and after hydrating the grains to determine that, fellas

Laugh if you want fuckers. Being anal yields greater results. How many of you guys even know what your grain moisture content is? I currently don't know the exact number, but I have an idea based on how i used to prep it. For masters in quart jars, 55 % is best. Then with larger containers, you want less moisture. Take notes faggots

Optimum moisture for grain spawn should be within 30-55%, with an ideal around 50%. To determine the proper moisture content of a grain, weigh out 100 grams, dry it in the oven at 300 degrees for 8 hours and then reweigh the grain. The difference is water lost, or the percentage of moisture. Now you know how much moisture is already in your grain, so you can figure out how much to add. I've found most grains come with around 15% moisture content. So less water is added than expected.
