I would ask something like "What do they teach you kids these days anyway" but you have the same reg date as me. Seriously though, how'd you get in here without knowing about field capacity?

Field capacity - Content of water, on a mass or volume basis, remaining in a soil after being saturated with water and after free drainage is negligible. Described as the state achieved when one can squeeze a handful of substrate or casing material hard, only to have one or two drops emerge.
I like a very thin stream better than a couple drops though, with coir.

First time I've seen it brought up relating to fungiculture and didn't bother to look it up before running my mouth.
I wouldn't be in this hobby if there wasn't always something to learn (however critical or minute). I don't mind being exposed as a fool .

Pick up a handfull of sub and if you see a stream of water coming from it then it has too much water. Field capacity is when your sub doesnt have a stream of water coming from it anymore. Usually after a little squeeze

First pin came in overnight, didn't even have time to spot any hyphae.

Seems like the fruits will not point straight up since I'm using my window for lighting.

Just about ready to harvest my first flush:

Question though: Would repetitive grain to grain transfers reduce genetic variance (from master to master) and give me a more even pinset? I started off with MS inoculation, so I am wondering if transferring from jar to jar work similar to agar wedge to agar wedge.

I understand your distaste towards such an uneven pinset as well I use MS and this happens a lot more than I would like to admit. I got more even pinsets when I started to case my monos but even that was 50/50 and still got some weak ass flushes.
Always keep in mind the first flush is weak and the second flush is usually more bountiful
Unfortunately G2G won't do shit for genetics cause essentially what you're doing is just stretching out the same variant of mycelium, which is still MS and random, from one jar to another to have more of the same spawn but STILL MS
You need to do Agar work in order to get better results from your mushrooms. You should grab the healthiest, fastest, fattest and most naturally stable mushroom from your tub, spore print it and dumb those spores on an agar plate and start your work on mycelium from there

Ya they say after three generations of g2g basically your myc is bunk ... I think you can get some killer flushes with MS if you have conditions just right I haven't yet to achieve this but I think noc uses MS alot with hefty flushes

Excuse me? I very very rarely do MS grows. Transferring grain too many times increases the chances of funky shit like bacteria cropping up, since the original donor grains would be getting a little old by the 3rd or 4th gen of transfers.

Ya I've got a few clones from each of the four varieties I've grown so far still have 8 more to get haha if I knew it was so much work with different varieties then I would of only ordered three instead of thirteen

I did a 105 qt tub it didn't do well but my poly wasn't right and I had a fan blowing and I live on a desert climate I don't think the size has much to do with it drying if you have everything right I could be wrong
