OkCupid is better for dating, POF is more of a hook-up app I'd say. Your selection will be far higher on POF though because the numbers of matches you get are a LOT more.
OkCupid people tend to be uglier too, it's usually full of gross ugly hipsters and shit. But, they usually are more serious about finding long-term relationships.

I always found the opposite, but I am attracted to gross ugly hipsters.
I've given up on both tho and have started to embrace my aloneness. People suck.

like crystal G said, pof typically has the hotter babes. altho ive only met up with chicks from okcupid, so might be just coincidence that okcupid is easier to score from, or maybe it was just my luck since i havent spent a ton of time on pof
if u have facebook just get tindr tho its supposed to be the easiest

No, it is not safe to give any data to facebook if you value privacy. If you are worried about sharing your facebook account with other corporations, don't, facebook already does.

tinder is better then both where I live now. Mainly because its alot more popular. POF is almost worthless, mainly fat/single mother/redneck hoes. OKC is better then POF, but not as good as tinder.
Fair warning, OKC is community moderated. I dated a girl who I found out was a moderator on there. I got banned for 'abusive behavior' shortly after refusing to see her anymore. Considering all I do was chat with women on there, im almost 100% positive it was her.

I've met one person through online shit. It was my current girl, over 3 years and a child now It was PoF, if it makes a difference.
From what I hear, I got lucky. A lot of people I know have shit luck on those sites... Or perhaps they're just lame when they end up going out with someone.

I'd bet it's more than that. If it's not now, then it will be soon. The stigma surrounding online dating is slowly going away. It used to be that "only losers and creeps" use it, now it's being accepted as normal, thankfully.

If you don't mind me asking, how does that work in your position? Do you put that you're trans on your profile (or is there an option to list that?) or do you tell em after you've met?
Sorry if that seems rude or too forward, but I'm genuinely curious because I don't think I ever came across anybody when I was window shopping ladies on there.

My strategy has evolved over time and as I've gotten more confident. I used to put it on my profile, but I stopped a while ago. I get a better variety of people hitting me up that way. I usually tell people after talking for a while and before we meet up. But I'm just now starting a new policy of waiting until we meet up. It's a big problem with people dismissing or over sexualizing trans women, so there's a lot to be said for giving people the chance to get to know you, before disclosing to them.
I'd be much more reluctant to do this with a man. Fortunately, I rarely use online dating to meet men. I don't really need to. But I would have a great deal of anxiety about meeting a guy before disclosing. People get killed over that shit. It's fucked up, but that's just how it is. I honestly wish I didn't have to disclose at all, it can be incredibly painful and it regularly torpedoes promising matchups.

I tend to have way more luck in person than on either of those sites. I've used them before, don't get me wrong, but over the course of my life I've been waaaaay more successful at meeting people in person than online.
Could be my fault of course. Maybe I don't photograph well

I cant think of a more disrespectful time wasting lie someone could tell me. Oh that girl you've spent your time talking to, then spent even more time meeting up with? Yeah, she has a cock.
Its bad enough when big girls put up pictures from 3 years and 50lbs ago. Or when they take pictures from angles hiding their fat. But to not be honest about having a dick?
Just be honest with who you are. Quit trying to mislead people. Yeah, its misleading people. No, they werent promising matches. They dont want a dick. How could that ever be a promising match?

Yeah, I don't bother with online dating for guys, it's so straightforward IRL Courting women is so goddamn abstruse, it's easier online. With guys it tends to be very obvious when they want to bang, you can see it in everything they do. It even makes them walk funny

Well, yeah, I mean she should be honest, but I dunno on the other hand if the chick was hot and post op... I have to admit I would be a little curious. I don't know if I could actually go through with it, but I had to admit I've always been a little curious about these fancy new surgically created vaginas. What do they feel like? Are they like the real thing? Again though, I don't know if I'd actually have the balls to go through with it.
If the chick still has a cock, then that's an entirely different scenario. I do think it's important for people to know that early on. If you don't mention it in the profile, then hopefully within the first couple messages.

Courting women is insane. I just don't even.
At this point, I don't even bother to try anymore. I just literally try to be friends with them and expect nothing out of it at all. Although of course I eventually try for sex, but that's not even my goal or expected or anything anymore. I pretty much just go into every conversation with women as if nothing will ever happen and I'll probably never see them again in my life. It's a really shitty way to approach anything in life, but it's the only thing that's made courting women remotely bearable for me.

I've not used POF much, but maybe I should, since I'm not really looking for anything more than sex ATM.
I've used OKC a lot and had pretty mixed results with it... Just one really good match and a whole lot of major fucking duds. But I guess that's just how dating tends to play out in the end. I miss being in a relationship.
I've found that me being alone is not nearly as sad as me attempting dating. I don't have much of a sex drive in the past years, probably from being a long term opiate addict, and I work 50 hours per week now and when I have free time I just want to relax.

Dating is really frustrating no matter how you look at it. After a certain number of duds, the notion of just throwing up your hands and saying fuck it has genuine appeal.
But I have a crazy sex drive so that basically keeps my ass out there and looking for new people to do sex stuffs with, even if dating is a huge pain.

especially online dating just seems to bring out what I like least in people. I wish it wasn't that way, but there is just something so phony about it to me. The relationship just feels created from the start, rather than happen organically, and there are alot of expectations.
Really depends on how you look at it, but I never have been able to swing it for long enough to meet more than a few people here and there, so my odds aren't so good.

I actually haven't had any romantic outcomes from okcupid, but I did find a great playmate who I slept with semi-regularly for a year or so. It was some of the best sex I ever had, she was such an attentive and tender and considerate lover, so ravenous, so rare. But then she moved to the other side of the country and got married. I'm still on okcupid chasing that kinky-voluptuous-Jewess-with-98%-compatibility dragon, but I doubt I'll ever meet somebody else like her.
Ironically, my first "real" relationship, first true romance and the closest I've come to having a life partner, was somebody I met on Tinder, which is actually supposed to be more for hookups than relationships. We broke up earlier this year, it's been really difficult. I feel like I'm down for the count on relationships for the time being. However I am still dating anyway, because I am a horn dog.

nahh they're okay for meeting people and for hookups if you're looking for that, it cuts through a lot of bullshit but in place of that bullshit there's a bunch of other bullshit you've gotta deal with.
It depends a lot on your area too. I can only tolerate using those apps for a stretch of time tho before I get tired of it and delete my account .

Ugh. I once read the book 'The Game' by Neil Strauss after some urging from a friend. Some time later I remember standing outside work having a smoke and looking at a group of guys, smartly dressed to the point of looking silly, talking in that 'PUA' terminology I had read about. I couldn't help but feel sorry for them.

@Jokeshopbeard, We had plans to go out to a local show and grab a bite to eat as it was our first date and I got there and he had already ordered food in, told me he was tired, and then spent most of the time talking about all the other girls he'd been hooking up with and greek life before trying to make a move on me - I ended up walking myself home at 1am in an ice storm, which was nbd as it was about a mile from where I lived but I...needed a break.

From that whole D.E.N.N.I.S thing you mentioned (I had to go look it up) it sounds like he was working on a contrived tactic. It's difficult for me to imagine being on the opposite side of the gender spectrum, but did it feel really obvious to you that it was something like that, or was the dude just hopelessly inept socially?
Plus, you gotta explain this 'nice guys are the worst' thing to me... I've seen men do some lame, sacrilegious shit in front of women that makes me feel ashamed to be part of the same gender, but am curious if it's the same kinda shit you're talking about.

JSB, you strike me as a "nice guy" in some ways. But not in an intentional way like fratbros.
I just picture you sitting around and being all kind to some girl, and then saying something like "you know, if you were a guy I would beat you lifeless right now" when she unintentionally does something to offend you

A little bit of both. It was really obvious he had one objective that evening, but at the same time he was a smart dude, was pursuing his masters at an ivy league in engineering, and I was so baffled as to how someone who was clearly so smart could also come across as really inept and at times small minded, but I think it was just social awkwardness - nonetheless I really didn't appreciate him trying to get in my pants that night under such false pretenses.
Kinda met up with him on a whim, pretty much every other date I went on was totally fine even if there wasn't really any romantic chemistry, I usually vetted them a little bit more to make sure we had some similarities so that even if it went no where I still had a good time on several dates with guys who would bro out with me.

Nice guys are dangerous because they often feel they're immediately owed something.. And, well, they can be dangerous. Stalking, etc. They're so out of touch with reality and get so frustrated and mad when things don't go their way with women. Like a petulant child. That stupid Asian dude that shot up the college a few years ago killing all those people was a nice guy. He made a video that he posted before the rampage about how all the women like douche bags instead of nice guys like him.. That was his fucking motive.. Legit..

Same thing happened in Santa Barbara. Some shit-stain of a person named Elliot Rodgers. On May 23, 2014, in Isla Vista, California, Elliot Rodger killed six people and injured fourteen others near the campus of University of California, Santa Barbara, before taking his own life.
The attack began when 22-year-old Rodger stabbed three men to death in his apartment. Afterwards, he drove to a sorority house and shot three female students outside, killing two. He drove to a nearby deli and shot to death a male student who was inside. He began to speed through Isla Vista, shooting and wounding several pedestrians and striking several others with his car. Rodger exchanged gunfire with police twice during the attack, receiving a non-fatal gunshot to the hip. The rampage ended when his car crashed into a parked vehicle and came to a stop. Police found him dead in the car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Before driving to the sorority house, Rodger uploaded to YouTube a video titled "Elliot Rodger's Retribution", in which he outlined details of his upcoming attack and his motives. He said he wanted to punish women for rejecting him and to punish sexually-active men for living a more enjoyable life than his.
After uploading the video, Rodger e-mailed a lengthy autobiographical manuscript to approximately a dozen acquaintances and family members. The document, which he titled "My Twisted World", was made available on the Internet and became widely known as his "manifesto". In it, he described his childhood, family conflicts, frustration over not being able to find a girlfriend, his hatred of women, his contempt for racial minorities and interracial couples, and his plans for what he described as "retribution".

"nice guys" are fucking gross
I refuse to drop the scare quotes... They're not nice guys. They're assholes. Real nice guys don't have any pretenses about their niceness, they're nice because they're nice, not because they think sex is purchased with small favors and lip service, and they get laid hella much

I think the reason you never noticed me before (as with many) is that I wasn't a mod. All of a sudden that flag appears by my handle and everyone's like 'who's this guy' even though I'd been posting here for years.
Oddly, the amount of shit I got for being a mod in the early days is partly what's kept me coming back here with increasing frequency.

Likewise sister, likewise. The difficulty I found in this 'online' world, is that I've never been in a position where people could talk shit to me without being able to become physically involved when they pushed too far. That was a big 'ol headfuck for me at first. I feel like I've gotten to grips with it a lot better now, but man, it was a challenge at first. I'm so used to fighting people (even though I haven't in years), and enjoying the anger and adrenaline and the pain of the blows, that it confused the hell outta me.
I don't think I'm much of an emotional masochist TBH, but a massive physical one.

I was a fighter back when I was a kid. I got into fights all the time. I loved that rush of fear that comes with realizing somebody in your immediate vicinity wants to fuck you up. That's how you know you're alive.
This conversation is making me want to take up martial arts again.
Internet is fucked up, people think they can get away with saying anything. As if they don't exist in the real world when they're spouting idiocy on the internet, as if nobody out there is being affected. I believe those people deserve to get beaten up.

I used to have both, didn't go anywhere. I deleted them fairly quickly. Might make a new Okcupid one when I'm fully moved in, cause I do need to meet local folks. But I really prefer that in person. While there is convenience to online stuff, it doesn't feel ideal to me. Bumble is apparently good for meeting romantic partners. But I have coworkers on that, and coming across each other's profiles & having to swipe left or right

okc is way better in the city imo, you should give it a try for as long as you can stand it. I get burnt out on dating pretty quick so I de-activate mine pretty quickly too.
Meetup.com is also a good bet - dating sites are great for seeing who's out in your area who's also trying to meet new people but they're really hard to make platonic friends on for obvious reasons.
I've come across former co workers, mutual friends I had hung out with before but didn't really know, and my exes brother - neither of us messaged each other in the latter, it was just a moment when I clicked on a 90% match and it turned out to be him

Internet is fucked up, people think they can get away with saying anything. As if they don't exist in the real world when they're spouting idiocy on the internet, as if nobody out there is being affected. I believe those people deserve to get beaten up.
if the internet didn't exist, people would still be spouting idiocies. moot point. So you would rather use your fists on people to tell them their ideas are wrong? lol
Easy. I wasn't talking about you.

I didn't mean that people I disagree with should get beaten up. I meant that people who use the internet as a means and a license to harass and abuse people in ways they wouldn't be able to get away with anywhere else... Deserve to get beaten up.

Ah good call, I forgot about meetup.com. I took myself out of the dating game years ago cause I had to get my shit together. Then after it was I came up with reasons to not jump back in. Living back home being the biggest. It's gonna be weird jumping back in. I gotta say, I'm not a fan of profile creating. Shit's like applying for a job. I'll probably hold off for a bit to be honest. I have no recent pictures of myself either. I think I have a couple, but I'll have to hit up my friends. This is way too much like work.

I'm willing to bet a lot of those users know some things about encryption and masking their IP, and considering noobshopmod kind of just only started using the internet recently, i'm also willing to bet he'd have a really hard time tracking any of them down.

Sort of a funny story...
Somewhere in the time between when my ex and I broke up and before I met my current gf I was on OKC (I had an OKC and PoF account at the same time)and came across my ex's profile. Most people I was at like 70-80% match with. I'm not sure how exactly they rate that shit, but whatever...anyways, I saw my ex's profile and our rating % was super fucking low Kinda funny how that is, at least to me

Tinder really is nothing more than signing in using your Facebook account info and start swiping, no profiles to create or questionnaires to answer. I'm sure somewhere like POF or OKC (with questionnaires) could help weed out incompatible people, but for getting back "in the game", Tinder might be the quickest/easiest. I figure it gets easier for everyone after they get the first date with some out of the way, certainly has always been the case with me after dry spells.

Tinder has gotten me action more consistently than OKC, actually, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a woman's game. I know that when I'm on OKC, if I enable men to view my profile, it's like opening a spigot. Seriously.

Yeah. I never used Tinder as a guy but I did use OKC as a guy, it was definitely a different game. It was much harder to get the ball rolling with people, most women wouldn't even respond to my messages. I would be actively looking through profiles and sending out messages for days at a time without getting any responses. Now it's about 50:50. I can't comment on what it would be like to be a guy looking for guys on OKC though, because I wasn't interested in guys when I was a guy. Hormones are weird.

I've barely used PoF and never OK Cupid, but Tinder has worked well for me. I do live close enough to a decent city, so there may simply be more girls using it here. Less than even <10% matches, but when I make an effort to use most of the the allotted likes/day, I always end up with a few. Some use third party clients to like 1,000's of profiles per day and weed people out after the fact
@D_S Ah, yeah I don't think there's any way around using a Facebook account. No sort of account requirement AFAIK though, people make quick (or under an alias) profiles just to use it.

Given some of your posts here, I'm surprised you don't like Tinder more, or have a Facebook account solely for keeping an active (Tinder) account. Then again, you do seem like at least somewhat of a romantic. If PoF were more popular around here (it's not even close), and I could find as many matches as I can on Tinder, as quickly/easily, I'd like it much more; No idea if OkC is any more popular (here). It may also have something to do with being at a point in my life where I would only invest in a relationship with someone I'm extremely compatible with.

i do still believe in Love. I like to call it being an idiot but "romantic" works.
i've got nothing against the ones i've loved and lost because from the start i acknowledge it as inevitable due to my infatuation with Her...oin. The affect it has on the relationship is akin to still having feelings for an ex. it just fucks things up and takes alot of my attention. it also causes me to up and leave sporadically and my behavior to vary greatly from day to day.
I really prefer IRL over all dating apps or websites and plan on trying to find another mate once i'm in better shape mentally and physically. Also once i figure out how long i'm going away for, if at all.
I loveeeeee texting with girls too, it's so exciting! Especially once you hit it off and you start having a good back and forth and you're heart just gets filled with Glee everytime your phone buzzes.

That's part of why I figured you'd like Tinder. Being able to, for all intents and purposes, text so many different girls in your area so easily.

I guess. i was more referring to the honey moon phase with someone you've already hit it off with.
Ideally I like to focus my energy on one specific person but i guess i am gonna have to "play the field" again.
I honestly don't get along with most girls(or people) so i'd probably have it narrowed down to the girl i want pretty fast. She'd be quick witted girl, with a good vocabulary who knows how to play with the underlying sexual tension of a convo. She'll know when to test my resolve if i'm being cocky and when to throw me a bone if i am not at my best that day.
I'm really just a sucker for anyone i can vibe with. I don't chase based on looks like i used to and am seriously trying to settle down now.

I like to think I'm good at getting along with almost anyone, but that's different than doing well in a relationship. Ultimately I'm just not counting to meet someone especial on any dating app/service, so Tinder is the most to the point for me.
