Go figure. My first post is on contamination...
Also my first go at King Oysters as well as Pink. That said, I'm not certain what the Mycelium looks like for either of them. I've done blue oysters and cubes a few times.
I sterilized and inoculated 2 quart jars of rye with pink oyster liquid culture (Karo) that I made from a LC syringe on 7/27. I inoculated 2 more jars with king oyster LC that I made from LC syringe on the same day.
At what appeared to be 30%, 8/3, I shook the 2 pink oyster jars. The king oysters didn't look like they were very far along. Today, 8/9, the pink jars look to have moisture building up in the jars. The kings do not. Could the Pink Oyster rye jars be contaminated? Note the brownish blob on the Pink Oyster jar.
Pink Oyster:

King Oyster:

Also, the Pink Oyster jar seems to have milky growth from shaking them on the tops of the jar(glass).
Another thing, the Mycelium was always thin/light and not as thick white as other spawn jars I have created.
Any ideas? Biz as usual or toss it?

you're good. Pleurotis Djamor - pink oyster has thin mycelium. I remember when i was making straw logs, the pinks would always break because its mycelium is so thin. Your milky growth may be from a bit too much moisture in your grain. King will not grow as fast as pinks - pinks are lightning really; it could also be a temperature thing. kings will hault if its too hot for them, a temp which pinks will enjoy. either way, let them live!

Ok. Just curious since they both came from the same grain prep. One looks a bit wet and the other does not.
I'll let them consolidate. Thanks!
