Can I store hydrated rye berries for a few days before PC?

I prepared and boiled quite a bit of rye berries so they are now hydrated. I store them in the fridge atm.
Can I keep them there for 5 days before putting them in the PC? (I can not do it now and the next time I am able to do it is in 5 days) Will they not be hydrated anymore? Will bacteria start to germinate which wont die during steralization?

its a gamble, fridge will help, but the mean green is powerful when berries aren't sterilized. i usually see three days before trich shows up on unsterilized grain.

I tried to save unPCd rye for 3 days once due to time constraints. It all went green and white pretty quickly.

It would kill the contams, yes. But I imagine these contams produce various toxins and consume nutrients, neither of which is conducive to growing mushrooms. You may still be able to use the rye after, but I can't comment on that because I pitched the rye once I noticed the molds growing.
I think it's worth a shot just leaving it all in the fridge, but I wouldn't use it if you come back and it's got nasties growing on it.

It would be a sloppy terrible idea. If you knew you had FIVE whole days where you couldn't PC anything you shouldn't have prepped grains, pretty simple. Now you have to prep more grains in 5 days.
Take the time to do stuff right so you don't run into shit like this.

Not to mention... if growing mold and bacteria on your grain before PCing it (because it's gonna kill it anyway right lol??) were an acceptable thing to do, we'd all do it all the time.
Bacterial endospores already survive the PC cycle, which is why we have a time window after "sterilization". Mold might not survive, but you can bet it breaks down grains into things that bacteria will also opportunistically eat, and bacteria will survive, so any steps you can take to cut down on bacteria-friendly food sources, let alone sources of more bacteria, are all pretty goddamn important.

I gave up rye for millet years ago for various factors.
That being said there have been plenty of times I prepared too much grain for whatever reason and could not sterilize it all that day.
The only way to keep hydrated grain viable for processing is to get it in the freezer asap. If you freeze it you can thaw it out in a week or a month or whenever and use it.
Freezing it will throw off the water content, so you are going to want to check that before you process. I usually would freeze leftovers and then mix the frozen bag in with more fresh grain when the time comes to use it up.
Hope this helps.

I don't think its ideal but I think it will b fine.
I usually only hold over for a day or two in fridge cause of time restraints (never ha e time to simmer/steam and PC cook, its one or the other) so I toss in fridge unless its just overnight.
Let em come to room temp before putting in pc.
Don't use them if u see bad shit but if its only five days I don't think u will

This can be checked by weighing, weigh now in jars and check weight after. You could cover filters with foil or put the jars in plastic bags to stop it drying out via the filter (if it has one).
The grains should be cooled after heat treating ASAP. Same as rice you are going to eat later. Chill quickly and then store in the fridge, the longer it spends in the "danger zone" temps the more shit will start to grow and multiply.
